Shortly before the holidays my computer got a virus. I kept running the norton. Norton kept saying no virus detected. Yet i kept having all kinds of pop-ups. Some of them would start taklking. Can really be irratating especially when you didnt notice another window had opened. Then because of all this going on it could really mess with the performance of your computer. Okay i so i got fed up with norton not finding anything when i knew something was going on here. I opened up the harddrive folder. Guess what i found. CASHGOPHER!!! I do not know how this got on my computer. I never signed up for that. The sorce of it MYLOTS!!! I uninstalled that and guess what??? POP-UPS are gone. Hummmm!!!

I've been having a problem lately with virus's myself. However I know where they are coming from. My daughter has started watching TV on the computer because she is going back and picking up episodes of her favorite shows that she missed so she can catch up with the story line. Every time she does she ends up getting a virus. Fortunately I have protection that catches most of them and I run a virus scan daily now to clean out the rest. I told her it was funny that I could use a computer for years without getting a virus and she can't be on it for five minutes without getting one.

Yes, and one very important thing my son told me when i first got a computer. Never allow anyone to use your computer. At the time he didnt really explain why but now that ive been online a few years i understand better. All they have to do it turn it on and they can get into all your stuff. My sister bought a new computer recently but hardly used it. Her daughter moved back home and uses it all the time. Then my sister tries to go online to create her own facebook and the computer kept taking her to her daughters facebook.

Yes, i tried to explain that to her too. She said she did log her out but when ever she tried to create and account it just logged her daughter back in. Im sure she was doing something wrong there. She always calls me when she is having a computer problem. Its really hard for me to help her living 1,000miles away. Especiallywhen she dont know all the correct computer lingo. Anyways her daughter woke up and must have helped her coz later that evening i saw she had her facebook up and running. Then she had a problem figureing out the diff between chat and message. She said her daughter gets irritated at her for asking her to teach her. I told her she can only learn it by just going there and looking around. Just like this neighbor guy of mine stopped me on my way home yesterday. he had just got a cell phone and was asking me to help him. I told him each phone was different and he had to just spend some time with his manuel and phone.

She would probably be able to set up her own facebook page if she logged out of her daughters. Many times people just shut down the computer without actually logging off of what ever site they are on. That means that the next time they turn on the computer they are still logged on. I do that too, because it is easier than logging on each time I want to use something. But it is not a good practice if more than one person uses the computer.

Wow that virus sure messed with your system.I am sure amazed though that Norton didnt detect the virus .Another thing that amazes me is that mylot is the source of this virus .I have always been very careful of some of the get rich quick scenes because I believe that some of them were scams from the get go

Personally many times things like this can be good, but in a lot of ways they can also be quite annoying as well. I know I have all pop ups, etc. blocked and refuse to ever install cash gopher again myself. Even if it still exists now, there was really nothing in it that seemed to keep on interesting me.

Annoying for sure. Can scare the crap out of ya when you are all alone and suddenly someone starts talking. I dont understand how it even got on my computer because i never installed it and im the only one here.

You said you did not install cashgopher. Then one possible explanation is your computer was hijacked by an unknown person, who had it installed on your computer to possibly increase his/her rate of earnings from cashgopher. It is about time you change your Internet Security suite. The one I am using has stopped many intrusion attempts. Nevertheless many people dislike it, so I suggest you follow the advise given by the others.

Viruses are aggravating. They can be very sneaky sometimes. I know there have been a few of my friends infected recently and I think they got it from facebook. I have gotten emails from them with links and my virus protection always tells me a threat has been blocked when I go to open them. They are contacts so all I can say is I am glad they have been blocked so far. I always run a couple of things I have for protection afterwards just in case though. Good luck with avoiding those nasty viruses.

To tell you frankly. Norton is not good anti-virus. It will give false result and also create a virus in our computer...

Keep in mind for the future that Norton is a very common Antivirus program and as a result, many viruses are written so that they are 'invisible' to Norton (not limited to just Norton, but its a prime example). I agree with dark_joev (sp?) that its best to use two separate programs, and may I add AVG to that list. I've had it for many years now, and (touchwood) it's never given me a problem.

norton has always been questionable. ive had it in the past and it just didnt help much at all. they kept charging me more and more for this crappy service. then my daughter had it a while and found out it sucked also. so she quit paying those high prices and got the free that many people on here suggest.

When i first got my computer it had a free trial for norton with it so i just subscribed to it after. It had always caught things before when i didnt notice anything but this time pop-ups came coming and i kept running the norton with no results. Thats why i finally looks inside the hard drive files and found the cash gopher file. Something which i did not install. I live alone and nobody comes to use my computer so i do not know how it got there. I removed it right away and have not had pop-ups since then. One of the pop-ups was for cash gopher. As well as other things.
