A few days ago I was having a conversation with one of my friends about how I'm planning to save for Christmas next year. I told her about MyPoints and SwagBucks and how I'm saving my points on both sites to get Amazon gift cards, and saving them up all year to put towards next Christmas.
So she asked me about these sites, how do they work, how do you earn on them, etc. I explained them to her, and she seemed interested. So I told her I'd send her an invite to each site so she could check them out.
She joined Swagbucks, but not Mypoints, and since she joined she hasn't earned anything. Now she's not interested in them anymore.
I can't really blame her, I've done it before myself.. thought I was interested in a site, but once I joined it was too intimidating or time consuming or just not something I enjoyed doing enough.
But it is so hard for me to get referrals, so I was so excited that I got someone to sign up under me, and I thought she'd love these sites because I know money is tough for her and she's got 3 boys and a baby on the way. Maybe I can get her to change her mind about the sites and start earning!
Have you ever gotten a friend to sign up as a referral and then they weren't interested or never used the site?

With the toolbar thing...do they have one for firefox....or does it have to be IE..I rarely use IE...prefer Firefox. Also..just seen something about Bing and being able to make money using them..and you get 250 points to sign up but it is IE 7 and above and you have to sign up with a hotmail account..

I got a referral on mypoints once. But I've never tried to refer anyone else because no one I know would take the time to use them. Even with mylot, I joined because a friend of mine sent me a referral. I had no interest in the site, but wanted to at least sign up so she could earn some money. After about a month I got really active (this was when earning a dollar a day was a breeze). Funny thing is, she hasn't been active on mylot in a couple of years now. But I'm still here.

I've never had good luck with referrals. I tried to get my mom to sign up for a few sites.. but she never became active.

I have had 11 referrals and some signed up and did nothing...and some maybe a day and one or two a month...made their first cashout and quit..It is so hard to get referrals...I am a member of MyPoints and it is so easy to earn points on there I would have thought she would join that one for sure.( I have no active referrals there either) Everyone in my family or my husbands and friends are always asking me what sites I do..how much I make can they join..I tell them in the beginning it is the hardest but when you get the hang of it, it gets easier and you earn more..so I end up giving all my links.. some not even for referrals just to help them out..and then I find out they don't even do them..kinda makes me mad..because they are the ones that asked me...so I don't get excited anymore. I just hand over the links and go with the flow.. Because I know 99.9 person of the time they won't even do them or do them long. I am not sure if I have joined swag bucks but probably have but I am not remembering when. I just had so much on my plate at the time and had to cut back on a few. Well, good luck in getting your friend to join your favorite sites and may she be a great referral once she gets the hang of it.

I had my mom join most of my sites too and it was the same thing.. she signed up but didn't become active. She needs the money so bad too, so I don't get why she wouldn't, unless she thinks it's a waste of time.
I think Swagbucks is probably the easiest site I belong to. I downloaded the toolbar and anytime I want to do a search I do it through the tool bar.. and every few searches a box will pop up saying I won 10 Swagbucks or something. Just for doing searches I would have done anyways. It only costs 450 SB to get a $5 Amazon gift card.. so I'm saving it all up this year and using the gift cards towards next Christmas.

I've had that happen a few times. I got my cousin, my sister and my friend to sign up for this but they pretty much lost interest right away. My friend I thought wouldn't as much because one of her first discussions got like 40 some responses or more. Plus she was so far in debt because of an ex, I thought she'd go for it. But I can't blame them I guess, this kind of thing isn't for everyone. I was overwhelmed by mylot at first. I joined it I think just to get credit for mypoints. When I looked at it and read it I was overwhelmed and not sure what to do. I came back about 2 months later to check it out in more detail and have been here ever since. I love mypoints too! I usually save up for walmart gift cards, but I've recently started saving up for red lobster ones. Then when I earn one I can make someone take me out to dinner to use it lol.

The only place I have had good referrals with was SideTick. I signed up under a user here, and immediately turned around and posted about it on Gather (got flagged for it) and had some good sign ups. Then a friend here was very distressed over her financial situation, and I recommended Sidetick. She has done well.

I always used to redeem the $10 Walmart cards as soon as I could.. this time I'm saving up for the $25 Amazon card to use towards next Christmas.

I did not invite her to Mylot. I like to share personal stories here, so do not want to invite people I know personally as I don't want them to know I talk about them here, LOL.
But I agree.. I love Mylot and would remain here even if I didn't get paid.. though I will admit I wouldn't be as active if I weren't getting paid, LOL.

Yes, this happens quite often. A lot of my friends rely on student loan to get by and others have a part time job. So they like the idea of earning a little extra money for a night out, or some new beauty products, but when it comes to actually sitting down at the computer and earning the money they find something else better to do.
I have always been very money driven and over the last year I have started to have less disposable income, so putting the effort into mylot and other similar websites have become more and more important to me.

When I am "active" on Mylot I can earn $20 a month.. but that's mostly by being here all day.. which I don't do much of anymore.

My referrals here have been family and the only one who has done anything and stuck with it is my husband, and he is not very involved, just sometimes. He would rather read articles on Yahoo.

No, I've never had a friend sign up as a referral, but I got my husband to. I got him to sign up for mylot. And although he did make a few posts in the beginning, he's just not interested in participating on here...which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Because if he was interested I'd probably never get a chance to post on here!
Happy mylotting!

katsmeow1213,
Like you, I have a handful of referrals but unlike yours mine are fortunately quite active.
I believe that it is important to spend some time with follow ups and personally keeping in touch with them - especially when there's a lag or lapse at their end. After all, I am sure we have our lapses and discouraging times where a personal note from our up lines can really be timely.
Also, I think it would help if we help them get referrals at their end as well. If you look at all these earnings, they are really quite insignificant and daunting when you are doing it alone. However, if you work with a base then you can see that it will be a world of difference.
I say, devote sometime with them where you not only keep tabs but train them to work successfully like you.

I've had half of my referrals on SwagBucks do that. Some I don't think understand why they pay you and using another that's preprogramed into your browser doesn't. Or I don't think they take the time to switch to SwagBucks in the search box in their browser either. I only have one referral that's actively earning right now.

It has happened to me many times. They seem interested and I send them a link then I spend my valuable time telling them all about the site and what they need to do to earn, etc. Then they never do anything after they join or don't join at all, that is frustrating because I have spent all that time explaining it, usually typing it out for them, time I could be using to earn myself instead of giving info to someone who is just wasting my time and isn't going to do anything with the information anyways, plus got me all excited thinking I was going to get a referral, so I certainly know how you feel.

I have many friends who refused me when I invited them to join me online, participating in the online sites as my referrals. They just feel that they do not want to be involved in sites, that will eventually go away and they would have wasted their time.
I think, friends who do say yes are just saying yes because they don't want to hurt their friend's or family member's feelings. They may have no intentions of participating, so I just don't ask anyone to be my referral on any site.
