Which site provides you with more sales Etsy or Artfire? I have been visiting Artfire a lot lately to browse, and I am wondering if I should list some of my items there or on Etsy. I tried Etsy in the past and no success. However, I did not advertise so that was a big reason. Any input on the two sites will be appreciated.

I've listed items on etsy, but while I had one sale, I haven't had any more. Then again, I didn't post regularly or market in any way, so I think I got what i put into it, you know what I mean. I hadn't heard of artfire - I'll have to take a look.

Much of this comes down to the effort put in and the tools available to put that effort in. I'm the marketing guy for a collectibles marketplace called bidStart (we do traditional collectibles like stamps, coins, postcards, comics, etc.) and I continually encounter unmotivated sellers who think just listing things is enough.
We provide a number of tools that our motivated sellers use to have very solid sales (several sell only on bidStart though I'm a fan of selling on as many sites as possible).
Sellers need to set themselves apart as there are so many of them. There are tons of McDonalds "competitors" that show up each year only to go out of business shortly after opening their first location. If you want to compete with the "big boys" you're going to have to do more than just show up.

I, too, have never heard of artfire; I will check it out. Etsy seems to be a pretty good site for buying and selling.
