Do still hear someone greeting each other Happy new year in the month of February or late January? I have an old acquaintance greeted me "Belated(???) Happy New Year" last year on the 23rd day of the first month. I asked myself why belated if it's still new year? When do you feel it's inappropriate to greet somebody Happy New Year?

Usually for me after the first week, I feel the year is in full swing and underway. So unless someone says Happy New Years to me I do not believe I initiate after the first week.

I think that once we get past the month of january we are tired of greeting the new year. We can get burned out with the salutation by then. We still like having a happy new year. We just don't feel like saying the words anymore.

23rd day into the new year is actually quite late, and i won't greet anybody new year anymore. It's meaningless unless it's an old friend i happen to meet, and out of formality, i will greet them with that. WHile over in singapore, right after the new year, chinese new year is coming soon as well, so it's in the preparation stage to welcome our big year. With that, we can actually hear happy new year from 1/1 to the actual chinese new year. WIth that, one can hardly tell, that greeting is meant for which new year.
