Can I use Brand Names Sites and Referral links in my posts?

Hello everyone,
I am new and was wondering what things I can post in my discussion.
Can I use the name of a brand or website I use in a discussion.
Can I post a site URL?
Can I post a referral link?
I think I most likely can't post any referral link.
But I once posted a site link and I got a message it violated a term.
I don't get why.
I think you can post links to websites and start a discussion about it right?
It was just some information on what the site contained.
It wasn't really a commercial for the site.
It's just a site I use and wanted to share with the other mylot users.
Here is the violation I got.
soliciting donations/ charity requests/ petitions
So can I use site URL's or not?
