What You Wanted

I don't know if you asked for anything for Christmas. I was asked what I wanted, and the only thing I requested was a Betty White calendar. An odd request? Sure, but then again I never claimed to be normal. I took a picture of it as my parent's house that night, and I've included it in the discussion.
Did you get what you asked for this Christmas? I'm hoping you got the non material things too. Like laughter, joy, and comfort. The invisible things are sometimes the best things.
(Some of you are wondering who Betty White is. To sum it up she was Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (before my time), Rose on The Golden Girls, and is currently Elka on Hot in Cleveland. She also made a big splash this year by landing a hosting job on Saturday Night Live due to a Facebook campaign. And she did one of the funniest Super Bowl commercials last year as well.)

Good that you got what you wished for! Actually, even the simplest non-material gift we got will make us happy depending on how we value the act of giving and receiving. As for me any gift matters for it is the thought and not much of the material value of the gift. I am so happy that every Christmas I don't fail to feel the real joy mainly because I know where true joy could be found. That real joy comes from the fact that I celebrate Christmas because of its main reason and that is none other than... CHRIST, my Savior. Certainly I got what I wanted both material and non-material and I should say the last Christmas has been so memorable to me. Indeed Christmas brings joy as this article so states http://evergreenlily.blogspot.com/2011/01/christmas-and-joy-it-brings.html
As for me the many parties, the many gifts, and all festivities will be meaningless if they are not done to celebrate the Lord, Jesus Christ.

I got it all!! I got what I asked for but the only thing I did ask for was flannel sheets. I got a ton of other things though..like wonderful memories....lots of love....etc. I had a wonderful Christmas topped off by staying at my son's and getting up at 3 a.m. with my little granddaughter so she could open her gifts from Santa! LOL

Hello,
I did not ask for much either. My children listen but I really would love a card from both of them. I know money is short around our house both work and in college.
But a card would of been nice to show you still care. I love having them around but now I ready for them to be back in college. They do not go back until the 18th of Janaury. The problem I had was I gave someone else my money for Worth baseball shirt and he said it would not be in for Christmas but now it is January it I still do not have it was for my boyfriend. I therefore went out got a World Series Phillies Hoodie/coat for him Because I felt so bad. I gave it to him on New years day! I still feel bad that other shirt never came in.
Thanks and have a great night
Sincerely unqiue16

Well for me, when it comes to Christmas anymore since it is just my husband and I, there is not much I really want anymore or expect. Usually I just end up going with him and getting some New clothes for myself I might need, and then if there is anything else we need as a couple. Personally I quit expecting much from anyone a long time ago. If someone wants to get me something I always hope for something small from them for sure.
There is nothing wrong with wanting a Calendar, and especially one with Betty White on it. She is an awesome woman and has really continued to amaze me the older she gets. I too loved her on Golden Girls and love seeing her talk to people like she does now and offer support and advice. Personally I think we can learn a lot from her for sure.

I didn't really ask for anything for Christmas this year, but I got plenty. I can't complain. :) This will probably sound cheesy, but this was my son's first Christmas and that was the best thing I could have had. He made Christmas even more special this year for my family and my husband's family. He was into everything and, of course, only cared about the wrapping paper and boxes. haha!

I am showing my age, I knew Betty White when her husband was a game show host, so I know exactly who she is.. Though why one would ask for a Betty White calendar??? J/K, glad you got what you asked for..
Anyways, I really didn't ask for anything for Christmas, but my birthday was in Nov. and then Hanukkah came around a couple weeks later, and each time I hinted that I wanted a camera. Needless to say I didn't get my camera until Christmas morning and that is why I don't have Christmas pictures because it takes me a while to figure out new electronics..Oh well, I still have the puppies to take pictures of..

Hi AmbiePam. I'm a little late but you know that I've been sick but saved a bunch of discussions so when I got well so here I am! I LOVE Betty White! I love the Golden Girls! I watch that show every chance I get. I'm sure it drives my hubby crazy but I can't help it. I love that show. I didn't know there was such a thing as a Betty White calendar.... REALLY? Where do you get one of them? I'd love to have one myself! lol Yeah, I'm a copy cat but hey, I like her too! lol I haven't seen the show Hot in Cleveland yet although I hear it's been out for a little while now. Some day I'll get to see it, I'm sure.

She also did a very funny commercial for Snicker's candy bars. She's been a funny gal since way back when. I remember her when she played Sue Ann Nivens and also when she played Carol Burnette's sister (Ellen Harper Jackson) on
'Mama's Family'. Oh! and, OH MAN! the things she said on the Celebrity Roast of William Shatner! Made me blush!
I think she makes 'Hot in Cleveland' the success it is. All the gals in the show are great but I think Betty pulls it all together and makes it such a success. I hope she remains healthy and active (and acting!) well past her current age of 88... or is she 89 yet? Okay, I just looked that up. Her birthday is January 17th so she's about to turn 89.
She's an amazing woman, to be sure.
Now, about what I wanted, yes, I got what I wanted. I've been wanting a kitchen island for awhile now. I looked at them online and found that they aren't cheap which is why I didn't get one myself. But, luckily, my husband has absolutely NO imagination and cannot decide what to buy anyone unless they tell him. So, naturally, I said I wanted a kitchen island and, voila, I got one! He did do something on his own with it, though. He ordered a piece of thick safety glass to cover the top. It came with a wooden top but doesn't look like a butcher block top, just an ordinary wooden top like any table would have. He ordered the custom-sized glass top so I could use the island to chop veggies or whatever. Pretty amazing for him!
Actually, he may have gotten it for me because he knew I'd spend more time in the kitchen cooking and baking if I had that island (he would be right) and he definitely likes to eat so it was a win-win situation for everyone.
He also bought me a TV with one of those things so you can hang it on the wall, plus a DVD player and put them in the kitchen. I had been using a portable DVD player in the kitchen when I was going to be cooking or baking for awhile. It helped to keep me from getting bored and also helped to keep my mind off how bad my back always feels when I'm doing a lot in the kitchen. He thought I was just "making do" with the little DVD player and thought I'd be much happier with a larger TV and DVD player. (That's just what he would have liked if he was the one doing the cooking. I was perfectly content with my little DVD player.)
So, he got me all these nice things to keep me in the kitchen longer. (I'm really quite pleased with it all. )
Now, since you brought up calendars, I bought myself a new one that I just fell in love with as soon as I saw it. It has really cool photos of penguins and I adore penguins. Normally, I get so many free calendars at the end of the year that I usually give some away or to charities. This year, I didn't get a single free one. I guess times are hard all over and the companies that usually give away free calendars just can't afford it anymore. But, anyway, I got a really cool calendar, too.

No Ambie, I didnt get what I asked for! And to be honest I am upset about it. I collect Porcelain Dolls. Not just any ones though. I have one that looks like she's from the Himalayas, one from Japan, and Elves. I have these dolls that looks like elves. Well anyways before christmas I walked into Marshalls and there sitting in a corner as if waiting for me. So I took a picture of it and and sent it to my daughters. It wasnt expensive so I was surprised when she didnt get it. If I didnt get her what she wants the world would crumble. I didnt tell her that! It did hurt my feelings. Nothing for her to know about though. Happy MyLotting dl
