African leaders should stop losing it and learn democracy

Most in Africa don't accept defeat after elections. In Kenya Koffi Annan had to come for the rescue of poor citizens after Kibaki refused to accept defeat and leading to blood shed. Its now time for Ivory coast the president has to be guided to learn on how he can give up power orshare power. Zimbabwe's president had to get the same guidence to share power. when will these African leaders learn?

Yes, I had just returned from Kenya at the time of the election and watched with horror as Kibaki refused to accept defeat and then as the stupid American President Bush recognised his win. Again and again we watch this happen in Africa but then I think of the bloody wars of succession we fought in England for centuries before coming to resolve such matters peaceably. So, looked at that way, those African emergent nations that achieve peaceable elections are ahead of the game! all the best urban

Really, Urban! You visited Africa? Oh, by the way, most African presidents, to my chagrin, are propped by so-called developed nations who often will do anything to have their puppet in power.

I guess the only way to go is hague which seems to give the leaders some discipline.

You are forgetting that most African presidents, unfortunately, are propped by foreign governments!

I have found that several Africa and Asian nations in reality practice democracy to a higher degree than our touting democratic nations. If it were not for meddling by so-called developed nations, most of the fightings in these developing nations would be not.

Even within Democracies there are mild forms of the same problem...We have had presidents that did not really win and yet they managed to be president. We have a president now that has been ruled a "dual citizen". You cannot be president of America unless you are an American Born citizen and yet they will never rectify this. There was a man who would have made a great president who would not run because he was a 'Citizen by Choice". Hopefully the African countries will become Democratic before the muslims take over all of them. Once the mulsims take charge, there can be no Democracy. They do not believe in such. Their rule is Islamic rule and nothing else may exist.

Adoniah, your implication that Islam knows no democracy is debatable. Would you classify the impositions of the British, German and others during the Scramble for Africa upon Africa or the impositions of the US upon Middle Eastern nations as democracy? I have found that several Africa and Asian nations in reality practice democracy to a higher degree than our touting democratic nations. If it were not for meddling by so-called developed nations, most of the fightings in these developing nations would be not.
