I always see teenagers texting while watching TV, watching Youtube while in Facebook, texting while listening to Ipod. How can they do the different tasks at one time. I think they're not being productive cause they can concentrate on one and that's make them losers.

I'm one of them but I'm not fond of texting. I can handle each tasks time to time.

Well, the ability of multitasking is an amazing thing in my opinion. There are many people who are completely unable to concentrate in more than one thing at a time. However, lately there are more and more kids who are able to do more than one thing at a time, and that's a good point of them, because they will become able to be more proficient in their future jobs thanks to this good ability.

I wouldn't exactly call them losers, maybe a bit st@pid if they are doing so while driving. But to say silly because they multi-task.
I am no teenager, but I multi-task all day long. Right now as we speak I am working on 6 sites, simultaneously made cooked lunch and am doing laundry. So my multi-tasking makes me tend to believe that I am very productive.
As I could actually be sitting here simply myLotting and not earn earn any money, be hungry and leave our clothing sit dirty in the hampers.
Maybe you misrepresented your discussion to say that if they only text when they are suppose to be doing other important things then it makes sense.

Hi EdnaReyes,
These days not only teenagers even the school kids are doing multitasks with ease. That does not mean they don;t have concentration, they can concentrate on all the things at once. They are much better and productive compared to old timers who do one task at a time. Whether we like it or not it is the truth and they have that ability.
I have seen many such youngsters who can complete three to four things at a time. As a matter of fact my 5 years old son who would be watching TV playing a hand held video game and will be answering(oral) to the subject questions without any mistakes.
They are trained to do so right form their schools and the speed of internet and technology makes them in that way, so when they are capable of doing it let them do it. This is my opinion.

It is common now a days those teenagers really gets addicted in texting whatever they do and wherever they are. They really having fun to much giving their time in texting. This spare time becomes their habit.
Before when the phone was new released,I am very excited. When I have it, my time was all there, even though I am eating, take a bath, dressing up and in school during classes time.I don't know why. But, I am not comfortable when I am not immediately read the messages. It's like a I am getting paranoid.Seem's funny but It's true. It's part of generations that teenager's now a day were influence. That's the negative outcome of the modern or technology world. They forgot to do their responsibilities and obligations. They first value their silly stuff.
Too much is bad, having cellphone is not bad but to much giving time on it.You forgot all your task just because in texting well!it's really bad.

maybe if we get used to that it's easier to be multitasking. i find it amazing how they start so young like children, but after getting used to web 2.0, which was surprising in the begining as there are SO MANY services, now i can handle like 4 windows (actually tabs) of different services, sometimes 7 or more, like looking for pictures, surfing on youtube, being on mylot, twitter, facebook, a game and stuff, sometimes even blogging while reading news too
it's so fun to surf this way and never gets boring

Hi,
maybe you can hold on to your views that teenagers are losers.
Though I don't know your age, either you are a teenager or you have once been a teenager. Thus, I don't think it is wise for you to say that teenagers are losers.
There are many reports which talks about multi-tasking. Some says that it works better for people but there are also those who says that multi-tasking decreases productivity.
I personally think that multi-tasking indeed decreases productivity, but many a times, we are 'forced' in a sense to multi-task our work.

The latter generations are always smarter and more willing to try new technologies than those before. I am sure what our elders saw us in our teenage years is similar to what we see the young ones nowadays. How can they be so smart? How can they concentrate? How can they this? that? But the fact remains is they can, which is why they are call Gen Y or maybe it's already Gen Z? But I do also believe the pressure on them is also enormous, so do spare a thought for them. We should be happy they can multi-task, otherwise those who are parents in here will have to be doing the other stuff for the teenagers. Long Live Teenage Years, because as one Lotter correctly pointed out...we were all once teenagers!!! cheers.

I suppose it depends. It is too soon to give the answer. There is no denying that some teenager "concentrate" on more than one thing. They can not get them done. But some of them have the ability to do all the things very well because they have the ability to deal with many tasks at the same time. So, some are losers, some are not.
