Best way to get responses to your discussions?

What are the best ways to get responses to your discussions? Simply posting a general topic and hoping for the best? or are there ways to have more people respond?
I'm asking this only because I apparantly suck at making good topics . Sooo... Tips anyone?

post anything of general interest.. and add as much related tags u can.. also have lots of friends.. it helps u in getting response..

create a general interesting topic for eg. something related to the physical looks of the people, some movie starsetc...

I agree that a somwhat general discussion is a good idea. It needs to be something a multitude of people will be interested in. Try to find something different though.
You can also post a discussion relating to your interests and thereby find friends who are interested in the same things you are.
