How to get direct referrals for ptc sites?

Hi fellow mylotters, I would like to ask your suggestion of how would I be able to get direct referrals for the PTC sites that I'm a member of. I seem to be having difficulty convincing my friends to become my referrals because first, I am quite shy and I don't know how to make a sales pitch. Second, they are not into this kind of thing. So, what to I do to get these very elusive referrals? I joined many traffic exchange sites before in the hope that Ill get referrals but I stopped because they seem not to be working. I would love to rent also but sadly i have no extra amount to purchase them and these leave me into this very frustrating situation. Can somebody tell me something that might help me find refs? Your inputs would be highly appreciated. THANKS!!
