If the reported loan signing of David Beckham to Tottenham Hotspurs goes through then I think it'll be a bad move from Harry Redknapp the Spurs manager.
I'm a big fan of Becks but I think now he is too old to play in the EPL.He's a great crosser still and good at set pieces but his lack of pace could damage the way Spurs play. Spurs are all about pace when they get the ball out wide, with wingers such as Lennon and Bale it's thier strongest asset.I think Beckham's lack of pace would seriously jeopordise the way they play.
Also the media circus that surrounds Beckham will harm the chances of the team. The last thing they need when they are trying to mount a serious title charge for the first time in decades is pressure from the outside.
I think the EPL is seriously open for a number of teams this year, and Spurs have an outside chance, I just think Beckham will do more damage than good

The only reason why I can think of why Harry could be interested in signing of Beckham is to instill the winning sensation into the dressing room. I think the problem that Harry is facing is that though he has a very talented side, he needs to get them into believing that they can beat anyone. So that is the only reason why I think Harry might be interested in signing up Beckham.
Cheers!

I dont think it is a bad move. In fact, I think Becks can be a good addition for Spurs. Yes, he might not be as fit as he used to be but with him around, the free kicks will be so dangerous. Beside, he can be the perfect partner for Crouch. Becks whipping in those laser guided cross and Crouch planting in all the headers. As for Spurs chances, yes, they might be good but I don't think this will be their season. Maybe next, they will have a good chance thou.

Apparently the loan move has fell through. I think that the main benefit would have been the merchandise that Beckham would have sold. I am sure that there would have been a huge sale in shirts with his name on. I do think that he would be a little slow for the spurs team and would have probably spent the majority of his time on the bench.

I never considered Beckham a great player, he was only an average player, who benefited the most from his looks and the fact that the 2002 World Cup was held in Asia, where this hype was created around him.
I never questioned that he was a devoted person, especially to the national team, where he accepted every position, even as a "companion" at the latest World Cup.
And now that he is old, I don't think that he could play as a side midfielder anymore, maybe only as a defensive midfielder, like he played a while at Real. But I think he should slowly retire, and do it in USA, because the high level football is not for him anymore. But I think Redknapp knows better than me.

I agree with you,Beckham simply doesn't fit in this team which has a very attractive and efficient style of playing.I think he should stay in the USA for the rest of his playing career because he can do a good job there, but, anyway,if he comes and ruins the beautiful game Tottenham are playing,I will be glad for Chelsea which seems to be in a direct battle with Tottenham for a Champions League spot,so I hope that's exactly what will happen.

Beckham even considering going to Tottenham would be, in my opinion, terrible. What can he honestly give to the team? He may, MAY, be able to boost confidence... but is that really a reason to spend all that money on him? Let's face it, he's ageing now. We all do it. Sportsmen have a "limited shelf-life", so to speak. As much as they may want them to, their careers won't last forever. He may be able to cope with American "soccer", but that is nowhere near as demanding as the Premier League is. The two don't even compare. Beckham saying he wants to play in the next world cup? That's worrying right there. If he isn't joking then he's just plain deluded and that does no good to anybody. If he thinks he'll play in the next world cup then what are his expectations of his "big return" to the country?
As you say, the "media circus" won't do anybody but Beckham any good, and all this fussing around Beckham will likely alienate other players. Any slight chance of jeopardising their title shot (even though I am not a fan) is not a good idea. I cannot see Beckham helping that, so therefore there is no point spending that money.
In my opinion Redknapp is either trying to sell shirts (as said in a response above) or just create that circus. I don't believe he intends to use him for any real purpose but making money.
