Is it a must for you to be friends with the girl you like or Your GF?

Well, I know most people have Facebook accounts. So, I am wondering if you guys and gals find it a real need to be friends with the girl or guy you like or love? This may either be blossoming thing, or you are already in a relationship with them. Is it required?
I am asking this question because, I see most people making it a big fuss about needing to be friends and all with the person they are in a relationship with.

Yes, it is a big deal to me because Facebook is a place to meet people and keep in touch with the old. You should be proud to show off the one you love. If not, it looks like you're hiding something.

Well, we were in facebook before, but now because of a fight we ain't. But for me it is not actually a big deal.
