Hello friends of mylot. I've been wondering about music this last days, and I asked myself why I don't play any music instrument, and my answer was: because I haven't decided yet what instrument to play. So, now I want to hear your opinion about this. I like guitars, but I think I don't have the ability to play one. I really like the drums, but I'm supposed to practice everyday if I want to be a good drummer, but my problem is that I don't have enough money to buy the drums and all the equipment. I also was thinking in playing some instrument such the violin, but I don't know the difficulties of playing the violin. If you could please help me choosing what instrument to learn. Tell me about your experiences in music, and how you decided to play any instrument.

Which sound appeals to you? For me, I was enthralled when a friend played "Fool on the hill" by the Beatles on classical guitar and I knew there and then this was the instrument for me. I was about 20 then. I still play the guitar today, playing fingerstyle with free tabs from the web. I play to enjoy, not to perform or post on youtube or media sites. It is my private enjoyment, and there are good free tab sites. I would suggest you undergo some basic lessons, thereafter you can learn on your own. If formal musical scores are too tough, play using tab, or strumming. I started with strumming too even though I was thrilled with fingerstyle. Once I was more comfortable, then I progress into fingerstyle. I had learnt also learnt piano for about six months when I was about 8 years old, but because it was "forced upon me" rather than by my choice, piano didn't last very long, and what I learnt, I promptly forgotten. So what ever you choose, stick to it, practice for enjoyment, and not worry whether you played well or not. Don't stress yourself...and just do it.

I do regret my decision to drop piano, but a guitar is more portable. That is my consolation for my wasted effort on piano. As for the guitar, i love it.

First of all think of any instrument you want to play and Second dont think about how expensive or how hard it is. Guitar is really good for starters to play instruments. Not only it is cheap to buy a guitar also you will learn it in a matter of time. Its not that hard to play a guitar. Its really fun playing guitar and singing your favorite song. Its much more fun when you had a band to play, they will teach you how to play drums and bass. When i started playing in a band my friend the drummer teach me how to play one. Its really not that hard its just confusing. And also the fun facts is I dont have any idea how to tune my guitar eventhough i play one. I just rush to the nearest music store and buy a tuner. So what are you hesitating for? Go and go to your nearest college or someone that can teach you how to play a guitar. Dont waste any seconds. You will be one of the people that can play instrument because kids and teens of today's generation never had any interest in music instruments.

I had my first guitar last year because first, I want to have an accompaniment when I sing and I really want to learn how to play it and second, I don't have much money to buy a keyboard.

Thanks for your answer. I hope to learn to plat the drums. I think I prefer this to a guitar.

A talented musician knows instinctively which instrument he/she was destined to play. This knowledge is not something that has to be pondered or studied, it is something the musician is born with! Before you choose your instrument, try it out for yourself. See if it feels right. When you find the right one you will know!

If you don't know what instrument you want to play yet, but want to play music, I suggest you try learning to play the piano/keyboards. Playing piano is the best foundation to learn music. It's so much easier to learn or see how the notes or scales interact with each other with playing the piano. Plus it's an instrument where you can play rhythm and melody at the same time. With that ability you can also learn or see how melody interacts with rhythm or beat. You can learn theory in not time with that experience. Playing the piano can also help you to become a better drummer if someday you wish to become one. Our keyboard player doesn't own a drum set, but I'm more confident playing difficult songs with him than our current drummer. It's because he can understand the minutest things I do on the guitar, and he also understands what our bassist is doing at the same time. Playing music is a skill. But no matter how skillful your hands are, they won't work for you at their best if your mind can't understand what they're suppose to do.

Well, first of all, any instrument you learn you are going to have to practice everyday. If you are really serious about learning music, you have to be committed to it. I am guessing you will not only be learning how to play an instrument, but also learning how to read music for the first time, so consistent practice is essential. Practicing can be hard work, but it is also very fun because each day you get a little bit better and before you know it, you are really playing real music! You might think about what your favorite sounds are. Do you like more rhythmic sounds? Then you might enjoy drums or piano. Do you like more windy, woody sounds? Then go with the flute, clarinet or saxaphone. Personally, I was always drawn to strings because I love that resonating sound they give and how you can make notes from all up and down the strings, not by pushing a series of buttons or keys. I played violin for over 10 years in school and I am trying to learn a little guitar. I also played trombone for a while. You can usually rent instruments from music stores if aren't sure if you will like it well enough to invest in a purchase, or if you cannot afford to purchase one. That is usually the best way to go if you are beginning any instrument. Learning an instrument can be very exciting and I hope you enjoy it!

If you like the music it does'nt matter which instrument do u like to play. You can start from any instrument that will give you satisfaction but work hard is conditional.

If you enjoy playing the instrument, no matter what it is or how difficult it may seem, then it wont seem like hard work. Personally, I taught myself guitar, I play all my favourite rock songs on it, and I learnt really quickly. So I would say, choose the type of music that you like to listen to, and choose an instrument that you can learn to play it on.
