Hi friends,
So many players were available at the auction of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON-4.They were some of the most talented and experienced players in the international cricket. The big guns like GANGULY and LARA were ignored by the franchise owners.England spinner Swann who is a good off spinner was also ignored by the franchise owners.JESSE RYDER,MARK BOUCHER,HERSCHELLE GIBBS,AJANTA MENDIS,MURALI KARHTIK and CHAMARA KAPUGEDRA .In these players Ajanta Mendis was also a huge blow.He is also a great spinner of ball who can bowl with different varieties.Another great surprise was Ganguly unsold. The former Indian captain's cricket days is soon coming to an end.
So many surprises and schocks in the cash rich INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON-4.Still there is a mystery how the franchise owners choose their best players. But the mystery will be soon resolved.

I have never thought that Ganguly was unsold, this is a surprise of the season. I do not care about others but wanted to see ganguly play atlesst this last season.
It's time for him to say good bye to Cricket world.

Hi Ajay,
GANGULY played well during the last edition of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE .He was among the top run scorers during the last edition. But he had many controversies when he played for his home team KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS.When his team won he encouraged his players but when they lost he criticized some of the young players. As a captain he did not do well but as a player he was at his best. Now it is time for GANGULY to say good bye to cricket world. He may return to this world as commentator.
Thanks for your comment.Have a happy day.

As a caption he did great for Indian team but failed to be good with young players in KKR and probably that is the reason KKR did not retain him. Others team had already got caption and Gangulay playing as non caption will be again a conflict. Perhaps he could play with Sachin as a team player.
He could have been sold for any team, this is not honor for a great cricket player like him.
Thank you for sharing

Hi Ajay,
I think he did not fail because of the young players. He was upset that his side couldn't perform to the level he expected. He has not played cricket for quite a long time that's the reason for his ignorance. All the franchise chose players based n international performance.Ganguly can enter back to this cricket field through commentator.

Hi Ramesh,
Yes,you are right my friend. All the franchise owners chose their respective players based on their recent performance at international level.Gautam Gambhir was also struggling a bit in SOUTH AFRICA but when he returned to his great form he was bagged by the KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS.But the retired cricketers like Ganguly and Lara because the franchise owners have not seen them playing. That's the reason for the ignorance of these great players.
Thanks for your comment.Have a great weekend.

well friend, Lara is not playing cricket from 3 years or so. One more thing is that he might be picked up later part of auctions. I hope somehow Mumbai Indian pick up Lara,so that we can see Lara and Tendulkar playing together, it would be great spectacle. It is not surprising that Ganguly is not taken by KKR. Ganguly did not perform well under Mc Cullum captaincy and I assume that is reason why KKR have not retain him. But who knows Dada might be picked up later in auctions. In my view Jesse Ryder is physically poor, his fitness is always big problem. I haven't seen in single series where Jesse Ryder never got injured, he is good player but not outstanding player that franchise would die to buy him. Boucher too did not do any wonders when he played for RCB. He is not selected even in South African ODI and T20 teams as well, that shows his career is over for ODI and T20. Boucher has to play some match winning innings then only he can get chance in his national side as well as IPL but we do not know he might be picked up by some team in 2 day of auctions. Herchelle Gibbs is not that much interesting for any franchise because he is neither playing for South African test side or ODI sides. His controversial book made him dropped from South African national side. I doubt Gibbs will be picked up by any team. Some Sri Lankan players have revealed to IPL that they have to go for national duties and not available for the wholes series that is why some Sri Lankan players were ignored but still second day auction is there, so, after the full auction process is finished then only we can come to any conclusions.

Hi Madhu,
Yeah,it will be great when Sachin and Lara play together for the MUMBAI INDIANS.But they haven't bought Lara. The franchise owners have not seen Lara playing cricket for a long period. So they don't want to waste their money on buying Lara.Ganguly has been always in controversies.Yes,he did not do well under Mccullum's captaincy. The reason is that Dada lost his captain position. But the KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS team fans have protested against KING KHAN as he ignored their home town player DADA.All the franchise owners bought the players based on their international performance. That's why most out of form players were ignored for the INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE-4.Gibbs was not picked by any of the franchises.Gibbs played for the DECCAN CHARGERS during the last editions. But his recent performance shows that he is struggling with his form.Boucher was a great cricketer once a time .When Ab De Villiers did the position of wicket keeping Boucher lost his spot in the national squad. What surprising was most of the Srilankan players were ignored by the franchises.Only some of them were picked by the franchises. After the auction many more players were unsold .After the auction it looks KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS very dominant in the fourth edition of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE.

Hi Abj,
SOURAV GANGULY is one of the great cricketers who made century in their international debut. He was also a successful captain for the Indian team. His home town is KOLKATA and it was a great shock for his fans that KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS did not buy him. There were many protests in some areas of KOLKATA.They all protested against Shah Rukh Khan.King Khan consoled all his fans that the decision was taken by the cricketing brains of his franchise.I think Ganguly's career is coming towards n end.He may continue his career as a commentator.
Thanks for your comment.Have a happy day.

IPL is about investment and profit for team owners and hence its not surprising that these players didn't get any buyers.About Ganguly,Jayasuya and Lara , well they certainly are legends but all three of them are seriously short of match practice and to a certain extent fitness also.About Gram Swann he didnt show much interest in IPL earlier so its surprising that he made himself available for auction this time. For a team owner if a player is confused himself about playing in IPL its difficult to chose him.Jesse Ryder has been unfit for 8 months in a year so who will invest in him.About Mendis he is not a mysterious bowler anymore .About Boucher, Gibbs Murali Karthik and Kapugedera they are average players now so nobody showed interest in them either. My personal opinion is Ganguly should have opted out of IPL like Kumble did and BCCI should give him some important role to make Indian cricket better.Ganguly has done so much for Indian cricket and he can contribute a lot in future also.

Hi Mehra,
Most of the franchise owners bought the players based on their recent international performance.I think the players who were struggling to find their form was ignored by the franchises. All the team owners have bought their players wisely. It is going to be great competition between the teams in the fourth edition of INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE.SOURAV GANGULY was ignored by the KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS which was a great shock for the Dada's fans. Some of the fans protested against the team.Other players didn't perform well at international level. You must be new to this site.I hope you enjoy sharing your opinions with your friends in this great site.

Of these lot I am only a bit surprised about Mendis. But even he has not been very effective. The problem with some of these players is their base price. And most of the IPL clubs now are really wiser for the first three seasons and are trying not to repeat past mistakes.
Cheers!

Hi Ram,
MENDIS was not at his best form when he made his last appearance for SRILANKA. His tactics was excellent at the beginning when he made his debut. All the franchise owners wisely purchased their best players .All the popular players were purchased by the franchise owners.Gambhir was not very popular in short formats but he was purchased at a high rate by the KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS.Yusuf was also bagged by the KOLKATA team. The two new franchises also purchased some strong players who will be efficient for their teams.

Teams will look for players who will serve them well for the next three years. Thus the reluctance to pick aging players.
Swann was not considered seriously because English season clashes with IPL. Mendis & gibbs cannot complain as they did not contribute at all last year. Ryder was the real shocker.
Many called it pure commerce, saying that this was a classic case of less demand & oversupply. I heard one franchisee say that if 12 good international allrounders were in the fray, they are sure the get the 10th or 11 one for a cheaper bid.

Hi Jshm,
I think it is not possible for the overseas players to play in INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE when their home country needs their presence. Most of the players would prefer their country rather than INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE.Mendis and Gibbs were continuing their poor form so they were not considered by the franchise owners.Franchise owners chose their players based on their recent performance. All the franchise owners were looking for a balanced side.I saw KOCHI taking mostly bowlers. They don't have some good Indian batsmen.
