Friends,
Do you have pet in your home? My Friend just got a small dog(puppy). He loves it very much and even the puppy gets attached with him in a short period. After a month I went to his home in the early morning.
I was shocked to see that he and his puppy were lying in the same bed. When I asked about this, he said the puppy never leaves him. It always wants to be with him. Though the puppy has a separate room, it sleeps with him only.
Now, Do you have a pet? Where is your pet is sleeping?

hi arumails why are you so shocked? do not people in your coungtry of area let their pets sleep on their bed? I know lots of cat and dogowners in the USA let their pets sleep on their beds. They keep their pets
clean and enjoy the company of a beloved pet. I have no pets herebut often let my cat sleep on my bed. What is wrong with that?

Probably, in our country, especially middle class & under middle class people have separate place for their pets to sleep, not on their bed

It is potentially dangerous to let your pet sleep with you. To the dog, sleeping on your bed is telling it that it is of high status and it may give dominance problems later on. Make it walk behind you through doors and feed it after you have eaten

That sounds controlling don't you think? A dog sleeping with it's owner is not bad, my puppies sleep with my son and they know they are not the dominate over any member of the family, including my son.

Controlling? You are anthropomorphising; a dog is not a human in furry clothes. Had you read my post more carefully you would have seen I said that it MAY give not that it would.

I have two forty pound puppies and both sleep with my son. I think it is a preference thing, like if I had German shepherds like the other mylotter, I'd probably not allow it, especially if I had two of them. But my dogs are not going to get any bigger and my son does have a full size bed, so there is room for all and they keep each other warm on these cold winter nights...

Why? Because they sleep on a bed? Dogs and cats have been sleeping with people for hundreds if not thousands of years. Though they act better than some members of my family, they are still dogs and they know that every person in this household is an alpha over them, they are not in charge..

Hello arunmails
You shouln't be so shocked to see somebody sleeping with his dog in his bed. This is a common thing among dog lovers. You can perform a search on the Internet to see that there are billions of people who don't find this shocking. On the contrary!
If your friend makes sure the dog is clean and well groomed, I don't see any reason for him to stop doing this.

In our country, people have separate room for their pets, and they don't allow their pets to come inside their home.

I wonder if that is what the problem is with someone who don't allow it. Sure I wouldn't allow a huge dog on my bed, but I also wouldn't allow a little one if they were not taken care of. My puppies are well groomed, (My daughter is a groomer and she grooms them for me,) and they smell good because I do take care of them. So what's the problem???

You know, arunmails, in my country there are also people who think that a dog is dirty and it doesn't deserve not even to enter the house! They are usually people from the country side, who were raised with this conception. I can understand your oppinion as well as you should understand others'.
When you know that your dog is clean and there is no threat for your or your children's health, I think it is OK to let them sleep in bed.
Look, I find disgusting to sleep with a pig inside the house , though I know there are people who live like this. But they have their pigs housebroken and they say pigs can be very clean animals.
I wonder how shocked would you have been if, instead of a dog, your friend had had a pig as a pet !

Well, we don't only have one pet in our home, we have four of them. We have two dogs and two cats. Well, when it comes to the dogs, my eight-year-old daughter insists that Jasmine and Michela (the dogs) sleep in the bedroom with her and has for quite some time. As far as Buttercup and Peaches (the cats) go, they sleep downstairs and I really think that the majority of the sleeping that they do is during the day while I am awake. The are always playing when I go to bed.

Hello, it's normal if our pets sleep with us, i don't see anything wrong in that. I had pet, now my mother is caring for him, but still ... when i lived at home he slept on my bed with me. If the pet is used to live at home, it means that it's healthy, with no bugs on it, with no health problems, vaccinated and eating good and healthy food. That means it won't have risk for us, even if our pet is sleeping on our own head.
When my cat was little, he loved to sleep on my pillow over my hair. May be because there was warm for him, may be because he felt like a part of the family, but since he learned to come up my bed, he never liked to sleep on the ground. When he grow up he found his own places and now he sleep there.

I don't see any reason for you to be shocked because you saw your friend's dog sleeping in bed. I don't even imagine not leting my friend's dog (which is, somehow, my dog, too) sleeping in bed. She is always clean and smells well, so why would she sleep on the floor? Of course, she sleeps wherever she wants, but mostly in her bed. But she's always welcome to sleep in bed if she wants to. Sometimes, during the summer nights, when it's too hot for her, she sleeps on the floor, but nobody forces her to sleep on the floor on into another room.

My pet dogs sleep in my room. They like staying in my room because they feel some warmth in there. I don't like them feeling cold outside. Besides, they are all potty trained. They know how where is the bathroom and where is the right place to answer natures's call.

We have two German Shepherds but they don't sleep on our bed. They also know they're not allowed to go on our bed either.

I have had dogs in the past who never slep in the bed with me. But now I alow my two dogs sleep with me every night on the couch. I can understand some dog trainers do teach that if a dog lays on you then its showing dommnence, but who can realy say if it's true. They keep me preety warm in the colder months so I sometimes like it.

I used to have a dog, unfortunately I no longer have it, but it was a small Yorkshire Terrier. He was called Timmy and he was brown, very small. He slept almost anywhere, usually in my room on my bed or down on the rug.
