Why do you think that there is constant changing of computers and software?

Do you think that constantly changing computers and updating them is
merely a scheme to keep people buying new pc's? Do you think that computers
are made with materials that won't last but a couple years? When I think
of tvs. some people still have there tv from 20 years ago. Why is it necessary
to constantly change if it's not the market to get peoples money?

The difference between computers and tv are one is active and the other one is passive.
Actually, if you look at tvs, they do change. The latest and greatest tv hare flat screen LCDs capable of 3D.
You could continue to use your old computer running on DOS but if you want to have the latest and greatest games and applications, then you need to have the latest and greatest computer.
The same can now be said for mobile phones. You can still use the most primitive phones but many would prefer the newest "smart" phones.
Unfortunately, for computers because we need to interact with others users, we also need to use the latest software - Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Pictures etc. Since everybody else is using the latest, you also need to.

Why is it that we need to pack our computers with the latest games since
these games can be bought separately?
Also the software creators tell you need to update your old software only
to get your money ..they program it right into the software mostly likely.
to constantly say updates available so you have to go to the site and download
more bugs into your computer from the software creators . ONce a new version
comes up you will get an update that it's time to update and when you go
to update you will be told your old version is out of wack..ONly because
in your programming your computer is told to react according to what you download.

You can't blame the programmer or the company selling the software. It is the nature of the market. Several companies failed to upgrade their software and you no longer hear of them (names like Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, or even WordStar).
That is why the customers want!!
As I said, if you really want you can continue to use the old software but if you need to share documents then you have a problem.
I used to have a very old printer but it was more costly to buy ink for it then to just buy a new printer!

Of course I can blame the programmer.
it's my God given right to express my opinion;)
People want a reason to keep on updating
and the software, computer, cell phone , tv .. companies etc.
all give them reasons. .IT's all about making money taking it
from consumer and putting it into the pockets of ceos .
The people who work for the big shot see very little in comparison.
If something works.. why replace it

Hi little fransciscan: I think so. In fact some people are slaves of new technologies. When I had a computer I didn't care if there was a brand new pc, if mine is working I don't have to buy another one. So, for me, maybe that's their commercial intention but we can resist if we don't really need to buy a new one.

I think lots depends also on the friends one keeps..
Sometimes pride gets the better of people.. if their friend next door
has it and is bragging on it and mocks them for their "ancient'" technology
then pressure..peer pressure .. is going to make them think they have to have it
even though the one they have is working perfectly fine..

There is less of need but more of want to keep up with the our peers who are bragging about their new "this" and "that".
The manufacturers of computers led the way. Now even TV manufacturers are jumping oon the bandwagon. First there's plasma, then LCD, then LED, now 3D...I am sure from now on, other products will follow suit if they have not already. Look at phones, fans (now bladeless), etc. You get the point.
I have known of people who still uses DOS on a more than 8 year old PC, and that is Disk Operating System in case you don't already know. Need or Want?

I know what DOS is . happen to be an ongoing student finishing a
degree in Psychology and Sociology and Compter class was a required course.
We started out with records and eight track tapes .. went to cassettes
then we are reverting back to the record shape in the cds and dvds..
We are a never satisfied society

its only the advancement of technology. Its not that existing computers should get replaced every month. But yes if someone is trying to buy a new PC next month he must get the latest technology available in the market.
