Are you one of those people who camps out the night before at some
cell phone retailer when the latest cell phone / iphone, mobile device
comes out to get it?
Do you think that the touch screen cellular is more durable then the original
pushbutton cell phone.?
I personally like the fliptop or button cell phone as oppose to the touchscreen
iphone type of cell phones. .
THere are so many fads.. blackberry was the thing to have for so long
now it's the iphone.. Too much for me to keep up with!

No I am definitely not one of those people who camps out in order to obtain the latest device. I couldn't care less what phone or other gadget I have, as long as it works and does what I need it to, I really don't mind! There are so many different things to chose from that I can't keep up either!
I think we live in such consumer driven societies nowadays that some people feel they are judged on what technology or gadgets they posesss, and feel they have to keep up with their peers. Sad, I'd rather be remebered by my friends for being myself, rather than the make or model of my phone!

I think the those who market phones and other technological devices
know exactly how to convince people they need to spend more money
..and as soon as they get the device they have to hop on facebook or
myspace or orkut .. wherever and brag that they are keeping up..Keeping
up with what..those who throw their money on fancy trikets while complaining
about the cost of living .. geesh;)

Though I am always short of money for buying expensive cell phones but I love to have new and latest mobile phones. Yesterday Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc was announced and I am in love with it. It haven't been launched till now but I desire to get it as soon as I am able to manage money for it.
I just can't stop myself from getting new and stylish phones. And yes non-touch phones are more durable, especially candybar phones as they usually don't have any moving or mechanical part. But touch screens are also of two types. Resistive and capacitive. Capacitive touch screens are costlier and are more durable so expensive phones are more durable. Nowadays gorilla glass technology is also becoming popular for touch phones. It makes the screen much tougher and scratch resistant.

Honesty is always admirable.
Why do you think you always have to have the latest, even when you don't have
much money..What is it about the latest that is so important to you.
Doesn't the older copies do the same thing.. or is it you like pretty things?

I like to get latest mobile phones as I am very much involved online. I just can't stop me from getting the best available phones for better online connectivity and experience.
Though my phone upgrade is just not limited to design improvements but I also look for phone having better specifications. I also like to try new OS(s), new technologies and all the other stuffs available.

If you were to sell the scrap unit afterwards..the older phones are
worth more in recylcing then the newer.

I wasn't really asking if you got a free phone; I was asking
if you have to have the latest phone..that comes out.. Havent you seen

I understand what you said. You just aren't understanding what I said. To your question I answered No, I am not one of those people. I used the fact that I got a free phone as a demonstration of how much I don't care about following the latest trends on technology.

No, I am not. I have a Blackberry Curve 8520 that I got in July 2010 and i am satisfied with that one. But I do knw people who have t have the lastest phone to keep up with the trend. For instance everytime a new touch screen phoe comes out they just got to have it even if they only had their current phone for only a fe months. I got my phone for free with a new contract and at the price phones cost today I believe I will be keeping the phone I have.

To me, what's ridiculous, is not only do they have to have the latest
but they will lay out over night on some sidewalk in front of a store
waiting for them to open the doors. .I don't know if people really do that
or if it's the store itself stationing employees out there to make is seem
like people just have to have that phone.. I know many are real but wonder
if the first 1 -5 people stationed outside waiting are actual employees
posted there to start the crowd gathering?

I truly think they are customers. I wouldn't be laying on no sidewalk for a phone and just as soon they done bought the phone they be complaining that it isn't what they thought and it be malfunctioning like iPhone 4 with the antenna problems.

I have got friends who change their mobiles as one changes their clothes! They're damn crazy about mobiles. They go for the latest mobile released this month...sell it in the same shop in a month's time and get hold of new one!As of my interest..Touch screens are cool to carry around.I would go for new ones every year...may be two if i'm in love with the handset.great day.

I'm not really the type of person who camps out the night before a store sells a brand new phone. In fact, I'm not really the type of person who has to have the latest phones. I have a Sony Ericsson G705 right now. The only things I do with it is make calls, send text messages and surf the web because it's Wi-fi capable. I really don't want to have super techie phones which can do almost anything. I don't like going with fads because I only want to be practical. I can't even afford a Blackberry nor an iPhone.

When you look at how the blackberry or iphone are made and compare them
to the weight and quality of material of the older phones.. you are basically
wasting your money. You pay more for less ..Phones probably .. moneywise cost
very little to make. They are probably made in a factory where the worker may
get 1 - 2 dollars an hour and they probably produce..how many an hour..
People are being puppeted by businesses into spending more for less..
Just because you just have to touch a screen over push a button.doesnt mean
you are getting something better; but rather, people are getting more and more
lazy and paying big time for it!

The time only decides for those who let it.. time is controlled by
man not man by time..Time passes and waits for no one.. People
watch history and their is a continuos cycle.. What was a trend before
will be again.. Just depends on what the movie stars and celebrities
are doing..
We need to wake up and take control of the industries and not us.
If we say we refuse to pay high prices for ipads that probably cost 2
or 3 dollars to make in the sweat shops..then they will lower the costs
As long as people keep dishing out so much money for nonsense .companies
are going to keep throwing out variations of the same thing and charge
more and more because it's new..when it's not new and something else is
available to sell.. you will get the same gadget for les..

I am not one who is worried about having the newest cell-phone at all. I actually use a pre-paid cell phone because for me, it is a lot cheaper than it would be to have a contract phone. The particular company that I use only has a few phone models to choose from in my area, and none of those phones are the newest ones on the market. I think that I currently have the newest one available, and it is a slider phone. I honestly think that the flip phone I had before was a bit better in that I didn't have to worry about pushing buttons on it when it is in my pocket.

Hi little franciscan: I don't think so. Actually my cell phone is just an old one but I like it because it's functionally. I have a goo Sony Ericsson cell phone but I only use it for special occassions. I like new cell phones but I won't buy a cell phone if it's too expensive.

I would think so. Sometimes a button on your phone can stop working, for a touchscreen, there is no buttons so it would be the whole screen that stops working.
The only problem I've encountered with my Blackberry so far is the scroll navigation stops working and I have to do a battery pull.

Camp out? I think sleep is more important. Will the first piece of the phone come with unlimited free trade-in? I guess some people camp out because if it is a hot property, they want to gain publicity (eg. First person to hold the iPhone 4, etc) or their boyfriend, and especially girlfriend, made them do it. I rather have enough rest.
As for types of phones, I like those with touch screen. It makes the phone looks cool. But I need to qualify I hold one with buttons with a small touchscreen, candy bar type.
I have used so many kinds of phone, but I look at the functions more than its form, provided it is not ugly. Trust me, some are.
Well, If one is rich, who would mind not having the latest? Change every few weeks with all the touch pads coming out. Do I intend to keep up? Let me look for a sponsor first. LOL.

i too love to buy the latest if i can afford it. but the last phone i bought was 4 months ago which is a touch screen phone. i think i love the touchscreen. cause it is easier to surf the net on my phone if it is a touch screen phone. and i love the bigger screen. though my phone is quite bulky. but the more slimmer phone with same specs has a higher value. and so i have to settle with quite bulky phone. i love reading reviews about the latest mobile phones. since i can not afford one , i just read about their reviews. so that in case i got the money to buy one again i would have an idea which i would like to buy. so i don't need to make research again.
anyways, my phone is nokia 5230. there is many cheap phone now with better look and cheaper price but made in china. but still branded phone but with less specs. mine has 3g. but the cheap touch screen with slimmer build and better look is half the price. but i have heard they work well too only that they don't have 3g but gprs only.
but i am quite happy already with my phone. i have tried iphone. i don't like it actually for some reason. i don't know. my brother owns one. and i checked it out. it is quite more expensive. just don't like it. though it is quite fast.
but i was not able to try the internet on his phone cause he is under mobile contract on company on another country. he was just back in our country for a visit. so he can't use the phone in my place. i just checked out he videos and pictures and i can't try using the internet. he said though it is wifi he will be charged with roaming charges if he used the internet. but in his country he won't be charged using wifi feature.

my bro is working in canada. and so he has plan in some mobile company in canada. now he is here in the philippines. he brought along with him his iphone. but he said he can still use the internet. but is afraid of data charges or international roaming charges. it is possible to use the net.
of course internet is one of the useful features of the mobile phones. i love my touch screen phone. but many people still love to use keypad mobile phone. but i still prefer touch screen phone. easier to write a message. and it is more a pleasure for me.
maybe if i have saved enough money i would buy a slimmer touch screen phone. i am still on the hunt of better but affordable touch screen phone regardless what unit it is. but i am looking at motorola and samsung mobile phones. trying to compare their latest touch screen phone.
i like to have wifi and 3g on it.

I do like to have the newest phone, but I have never camped out, nor will I ever do that, as that is just crazy. The phone I have now, I purchased in October and I really do like it. I bought an extra battery for it, and a good caSe as well, so I do intend to use it for awhile. It is a smartphone, and has lots of features, and I can even post to mylot from it. That is one of the reasons I bought it in the first place, and because it has a fast processor. Now, it doesn't have full flash, but I am not worried about that at this time, as it is coming, and then it will be a better phone. My phone does have a touch screen, and it has the Android OS, and I really do like the android, and I think I will stick with it. Now, when it comes to the newere phones, to buy one every time they come out, would be insane, as they get new phones quite often. I usually upgrade once every year, but now that Verizon has changed their policy, I will have to wait a little longer, but that is okay, as I like my phone anyway. Take care, and have a very good day.

They are changing the return policy from 30 days to 14, which I don't like, as it doesn't give anyone a chance to find out whether they like their phone or not. Also, as of January 16th, we can only upgrade every 20 months, and not every year. That is going to suck, especially when better phones come out, and I would have to wait. I do think though that all customers would be able to upgrade earlier, but pay full price for the phone. Now, if they do away with that, then they will lose a lot of customers. They will lose me once my daughter switches carriers, as I talk to her everyday, and it won't affect our minutes. For now, I will just have to deal with it as I just got the phone last October so I have to wait until 2012 to upgrade. I hope my phone lasts, and I still like it by then.

Hello littlefranciscan,
Um, lets just say i am very interested in the latest gadgets but i have no intention of buying them like that. I use my cell phones for years, but i still keep myself updating with the latest handsets. And, FYI i hate iphone and ipods. There are really not worth their price, just a fancy little thing that looks good from the outside but is really hollow the inside out. Iphones could not multitask, has voice quality issues due to the antenna issue and list continues. The only best part there is for the iphone is that it has the best touch experience and there are a hell lot of apps for the phone. I need a lot more than just these. I hate the audio quality of the ipod touch too, just so disappointing. I am a modest audiophile and i have no space for any sort of ipod, completely worthless for the amount we need to pay for them, can't even change the battery on the iphone, crap. Anyways, lets not get into these worthless things. I like the HTC and blackberries much more, and yes, despite me having a nokia touchscreen now, i really do prefer hard button full qwerty phones as they are much more convenient to use. I don't buy cell phones often, even though i have bought 4 phones up till now. I use them till they last, and when they wear off, i buy myself a new middle segment phone, not the high end phones, i don't really want to waste much on my phone. I could get more call hours saving money on the phones. Good day.

I am so in favor of upgrading what one has and I am totally in agreement with you
regarding the latest. .ipods and ipads. they are pretty little things that should
be put in curio cabinets or on display because their durability value is almost
nothing. .
I can imagine that typing on a touchscreen or pushing numbers on a touchscreen
must be quite fun;)
