My all time favourite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. The movie shows that hope is the best weapon you can have when you are down and out and there's always a way out.
It sounds philosophical but I have seen people redeeming themselves in seemingly invincible situations.
The movie gives me hope whenever I am feeling low. Another thing the movie portrays very well is that any fight is not over until it's over. Confusing?? Yes to an extent. A fight is over when you have a clear winner and you don't have a clear winner till one gives up.
An awesome thought. Never Give Up.
If you haven't watched the movie yet then watch it and tell me did you like it or not.
If you have already watched the movie then you can tell me your thoughts about the movie.

I both watched the movie and read the short story written by Stephen King.
The movie is quite long, but it is not a waste of time. The story telling is great. The scenes are not boring. I enjoyed the movie because the characters were presented well and the viewers can identify themselves with them. Also, the plot is good and the way he escaped the warden with the laundered money to boot is amazing!
I suggest that you also read the basis of the movie, which is: "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption."
I am sure that you will like it.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite films. I thought both Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman should have won Oscars for their performances. I love the friendship their characters build over the years. I also love how Andy manages to thrive and fights to make being in the prison better, not just for him but for all the other inmates. And how he's so persistent at it. I also love seeing everyone figure out his plan, and how well thought out it was. And the ending was lovely.

Hello kingatul.
I really love this movie as well, where the psychological aspect is at her best, and the feelings it transmits for the audiance, the message of never giving up is really impressing.
I was affraid my girlfriend will not like it because it is about prison and violence and all, but she loved it, i guess because it really is a good movie.

Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'!
One of the best movies ever. And I don't throw that around loosely. I'm a harsh movie critic.
Tim Robbins was really brilliant in that movie. A fish out of water, most definitely, but still able to stay strong-willed and to essentially live inside of his mind while still being social enough to adapt to the life and to help other people make the best of their situation like it was.
Even though he was planning on escaping the entire time, he still turned lemons to lemonade in his daily routine.
But above all, Morgan Freeman really sold that movie for me. That speech he gave at his final parole hearing, about not knowing the man he used to be, still gives me chills even though I've seen the movie about 20 times.
He was Shawshank. He and Andy were very similar people in many ways, but Red adapted wholly to prison life, so much so that he gave up on the outside world.
I think part of the intent was to show the actual difference in an innocent mind (Andy not commiting the crime he was accused of) and the penitent mind (Red actually being guilty and dealing with his choice), and how one knew hope floats while the other sunk into self-loathing long enough to become the walls instead of attempting to eat through them.
But I expect nothing less from the mind of Stephen King.

I can see this film a hundred times and still get the same effect as if it were the first time. It is absolutely inspiring if you truly understand the film and value life.
Although sad to see how a great deal of years were wrongfully taken from him, but he never gave up. Should and does convey to never give up on life. Thanks for the reminder, I have to see it soon again.

The Shawshank Redemption has been one of my favorites as well.
The message is clear that even after complete devastation hope
can still pull someone forward into something better..

I really like this movie too. It is a bittersweet movie which cause me to cry and smile whenever I watch it. What makes it more interesting is the fact that similar situations happens in real life, not all people behind bars are guilty. Some has just been framed like what happened to Tim in this movie. I agree with you that this movie showed that hope is our best weapon in whatever bad situations we end up to.

Wow! You guys are really in a class of your own. I admire the way you have analysed and described the movie. I don't think i can be good as you guys in giving such fantastic comments or analysis. The movie certainly made a mark on me. I've watched the movie a few times, most recently last week. One of the best movies ever on human attitude towards adversity, and above all, hope. Just makes me wonder if there will ever be another movie made as good Shawshank Redemption.

It's one of my favorites too. Definitely in my top 5 of all time. The actors performances are top notch. The narration by Morgan Freeman really adds so much to it also. It was really great to see character actor James Whitmore again too. He's the guy that played Brooks Hatlen for those of you that don't recognize the name. It's just an all around great film. When I feel like watching a movie to make me feel good, I pull that one out and pop it in the DVD player. For anyone that hasn't seen it, rent it or buy it, but you have to see it. Highly recommended.

I like this move too, is so good, the director should do more movies, a interesting fact: if you go to the internet movie database (IMDB) and search for the 250 highest rated movies you can see that "The Shawshank Redemption" is the number one in the list above other good and classic movies...
Regards.
