US Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford Fatally Shot In Tucson Arizona

Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot at close range at a public meeting in a Tucson supermarket and is believed to be in critical condition. It is reported that a gunman shot her in the head and killed six people with Federal judge John Roll and a nine-year-child among those killed. The gunman in this shooting, a 22-year-old man named as Jared Loughner is being held in custody in connection with this fatal shooting incident. There's word that a second man was arrested several hours later and police said they were hunting a third. It was reported that the gunman ran up to the group shortly after 10am local time and opened fire ‘indiscriminately’ and without warning. This is indeed tragic and I am quite confounded that the Congresswoman does not have any protection from the secret service or personal bodyguards or a protection detail assigned to her from either the law enforcements or military. How could this be undermined when times are so dangerous and risky? Was someone sleeping on the job? Once again, I really have to question the validity of gun ownership here where I believe this incident along with other senseless mass shooting incidents could have been avoided if gun possession is being made illegal.
