Why Guns?

A pro-guns Congresswoman is shot. Six people around her are killed. A boy kills his mother in a fit of temper. A school child shoots his fellow students. In fact several students let rip with a firearm. We are shocked and outraged when these things happen but nothing is ever done to address the core of the problem. Too many people, especially, but not exclusively in the USA have access to firearms and ammunition. Even children who we would not dream of allowing to walk around a city without an adult supervisor can have guns quite legally. I am not interested in what the 2nd Amendment says or doesn't say. All that I want to know is WHY? If you own a firearm why do you own it and have you ever had to use it to defend yourself from someone similarly armed who was attacking you?
