Why is it that majority of the countries under strong religious influence (except those with the advantage of having tons of petroleum) are economically poor and struggling to develop and catch-up with the developed countries? Is it because of the propensity of its people to rely on God to do mundane things which they are supposed to do themselves? Please enlighten me on this.

Some countries that have a strong religious base are poverty stricken, while others aren't. In fact, there is no correlation between religious base and national stability or economy.

The truth has more to do with freedom. Countries that allow the most freedom especially in business, prosper. With the diversity of people, people can come up with more ideas than any government. They must be free to do so. Greed and the fact that everybody wants to rule the world are the biggest problems this world has. This is in those who use religion to control others.

It has nothing to do with religion. Some countries are carrying the burden of debt which does not let them do anything to progress economically. Many others do not have the right resources and climate that can support them to expand businesses. Meanwhile, many have poor political systems. Politicians in those countries only think about their own lives. So they do not hesitate to take bribes while making the economy of their country crippled.

They are poor not because they are religious; but they are religious because they are poor.
