Today is kind of emergency, and it is not that we don't want to go to work, it is the severe weather condition that we can't go to work. There were about 6 - 7 inches of snow out there, and we just all afraid to driving out there. Especially at the highway, I have to drive at least 40 minutes to work at normal condition. With this icy road, I can barely make it though. Now, we call our supervisor ask about it, he said that if we can't go to work, we have to take one day off as vacation pay. What? Take it out from our vacation day? I called the company weather hotline, the manager left a voice message saying that whether we go to work for today is optional. How would they justify about it?

granted, i do not know your particular companies policies, but every place i have ever worked, if the weather was so bad that travel in to work was impossible, wee had a couple of options. we could either take the day off with out pay (which suckes, because then you lose the hours and the pay) or you could opt to use one of your vacation days, or you could arrange to come in and make up the hours later in the week on a day that you were not scheduled. but i guess the point it we had an OPTION. I don't think it is right that they MAKE you use one of your vacation days when the weather is bad. Particularly when the manager had passed on the message that work that day is optional. Chances are HE/SHE isn't coming into work because f the weather, why should you risk traveling, and be penalized for it??

does your company have a weather policy where they pay you if the weather is bad? Not many do. Every company I have heard of that does not have this policy makes you take vacation days or just not get paid for that day. School is the same way if the kids miss a day like today it gets taken from summer vacation or Christmas holidays it sucks.
