Since a few years, the media has been bombarding us with articles on obesity and its upward trend especially in developed countries. They very often take fastfood as responsible. But don't you think that this is also due to our cooking habit. With industrialisation and expansion of the economy, in most households both spouses work. As such there is a change in the eating and cooking habit. Most of you should have expereinced it: you reach home and are so tired that you actually open some cans of precooked food and put in the oven. Isn't it?

I think these already precooked food which we get in packing are not good for health. But due to our daily fast life, we even do not have enough time to spend on our health. So cooking and have fresh food is much more required in our daily life.

Adding to all the responses received so far, don't you think we are living a life of paradox. On one hand we are working harder and for longer hours supposedly to live better but on the other hand we are neglecting the most important thing in life to live a good and healthy one: our food. We are sacrificing our healthy food so as to work longer.

I think we need study to cook correctly, because there are lots of mistakes in cooking.
In my place, so many people pay more attention on how to make it more delicious. While ignore the health sides of the meals. For example, they heat the oil to a very high tempreture first, then put the vegetables into the pot. And so many people go to eat barbacue just for the good taste.
I do think we should put health on the first place when we cook. Because health is the first wealth.

I agree that cooking habits have changed due to many different circumstances. Canned food, fast food are some of the reasons. Even when people cook at home, they many times just boil some pasta and add a can.
Then, as they are tired probably, they sit to watch TV with a sweet drink (sugar) and snacks nearby. None of that iss needed so pounds are added.
Years ago, people walked to many places. Now even sidewalks are disappearing everywhere.
So that to blame our being overweight on just one thing is not fair, as I see it. If we want to shed some pounds, be must attack the problem from different angles.
Take care!

hi there
I personally thought now a days what ever we cook food for us is not healthy.because the farmers use different types of pesticides and chemicals to prevents the crops from incests and to grow the crop fast as soon as possible,by all doing this what ever we consume its not good for our health.but food is very necessary for us to survive in the race.

Some days, it's faster just to eat prepackaged food. But we usually cook from scratch because it's healthier. We will make large batches of things and then freeze half so that on days when we don't have time, we can reheat a frozen meal. Or we will have something quick like omelettes.

I think it isn't so much the food we eat...as it is the lack of exercise we get. I mean...look at kids today. Are they out jump roping or riding bikes or just running around the neighborhood like we did when we were kids? (I am of the "older" crowd!) No, they are sitting somewhere tapping their thumbs on some electronic device they are holding in their hands. THey are sitting in front of the tv with a remote box of levers in their hands. They are sitting somewhere yakking on the phone or tapping conversations on a little cell phone in their hands. And even adults...they are doing the same things. Fast foods have been around for many many years and haven't changed so why now...all of a sudden...are fast foods our worst health problem? They are because parents don't want to take responsibiltiy for their kids anymore. THey don't want to take responsibility for themselves anymore. "being healthy" is to hard of work cause you have to get off you duff and DO SOMETHING and people these days don't want to do that. To many things in techonology have made life to easy...thereby requiring less energy, ergo fast bodies! But the "blame game" is what it is all about these days. You blame something or someone for all your faults...just never yourself! That is unfortunately, the way things are these days. I'd love to go back to the 50/60.70's and stay awhile!

I believe my cooking is healthy i dont usually have vegetables from cans as im not a big fan of them and i like going to the fruit stand and getting fresh vegetables and produce. I also do get meat sometimes from a meat market as it isnt processed and what not.
I know alot of people that buy frozen chicken from the frozen food sections of the grocery stores and all that and they dont taste bad but im not a big fan of them and i would rather eat non frozen items and stay healthier and possibly live longer.

You are absolutely right, we use much more canned or previously cooked foods. I try not to use very much prepackaged stuff. It can get expensive to purchase and cook all fresh items. I know it can be time consuming too.. but with crockpots (that is what I used when my kids were at home and I had to work) it is healthier than eating out.
