No. As much as I love science, the whole playing God thing that many scientists try to do simply isn't going to work. There are some things that are too widespread to understand completely in hundreds of lifetimes. The one thing that isn't explainable is life.
On Earth, life has no solid definition, although we know some of the things life needs in order to exist. Water, in one way or another. A type of respiratory system...mammals such as humans, dogs, cows, etc. need oxygen, while plants such as trees and grass need carbon dioxide. Science believes it can understand this, but it is missing a key factor.
On EARTH, life is one thing. Planets and planets away, galaxies away, let's say there is a type of intelligent being that can survive on breathing nitrogen and without sustaining itself by eating. Is it life? Yes. By Earth's definition? Certainly not. Scientists on earth have no right and not near enough intelligence to "decide" what the secret of life is, nor will we ever have the technology to travel to the edges of the universe to research into every detail of it. The universe as we know it is made up of multi-dimensions and is something that is impossible to fully conquer in millions of lifetimes. What makes life and the universe so special is its element of mystery, so I think it would also be pretty wrong to TRY to discover the secrets of life.

No, life is more than chemical and physical, the scientist I think can't recreate a human mind. It is full of things that scientist still see as mysteries.

I saw this documentary called the 'science of the soul'. I suspect that life here is referred to consciousness. In it they were investigating where do we go and what happened when we are unconscious.
They say that when we are under anestatics (sorry cant bother with right spelling) we are still aware of our surroundings yet we are in unconscious state.
In the end they end it with this scientist with his group trying to create a brain that would come alive.
