The politics section is loaded with threads related to this shooting, and probably doesn't need another one. However, starting with the first thread since the shooting, there has not been one SINGLE thread dedicated specifically to the event and victims without an afterthought of political debate. This story needs to be posted properly, and the victims should be given the respect they deserve. This thread is for well-wishing, not political discourse. I'll be reporting ANYONE who drags partisan rantings and blame game techniques in here - liberal or conservatives. On Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, a lone gunman by the name of Jared Loughner (22), walked into a Safeway grocery store in which Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (40) was meeting with constituents, and opened fire. As of today, six are dead, and 14 are reported injured. The victims: The Deceased: - Judge John Roll (63) - Chief Justice of U.S. District Court of AZ - Gabe Zimmerman (30) - Giffords community outreach director. Engaged to be married at time of death. - Christina Taylor Greene (9) - Born 9/11/01, Third Grader at Mesa Verde Elementary School. - Dorothy "Dot" Morris (76) - Veteran's wife for 55 years, Mother - Phyllis Schneck (79) - Tuscon homemaker, church volunteer, mother of 3, grandmother of 7, great-grandmother of 1. - Dorwin Stoddard (76) - Father of 2, Stepfather of 3, Shot in the head while protecting his wife, Mavy. The Survivors: (not all the survivors are included. These are the ones I could find) - Gabrielle Giffords (40) - Shot in the head and currently receiving medical treatment[u][/u] - Bill Badger (74) - Retired army colonel. Head was grazed by a bullet when he attempted to subdue attacker. - Ron Barber - Giffords Deputy Director - Susan Hileman - Shot in the leg, hip, abdomen, and chest while accompanying Christina Greene. - George Morris - Retired marine and former airline pilot. Shot twice while trying to shield his wife, Dorothy. - Pam Simon - Giffords staffer - Mavy Stoddard - Shot 3 times in the leg while being shielded by her husband, Dorwin. There are a variety of memorial pages out there for the victims, but as of yet I haven't found a group or support iniative set up for them and their families. If anyone knows of one, please post it.
