Steps or lift?

I am with my son’s family now, it is a three room, two bed room apartment on the third storey, there is lift to go up as usual, but most of the time, if I am not in a hurry I prefer to use the steps, it is kind of exercise for me. Moreover, last year, once I was held up in the lift due to sudden power failure as there was no battery backup, I don’t know of the present situation. If it is the first floor or second, will you use the steps or the lift? Were you ever held up in a moving lift due to sudden power failure? Please share.Thank you so much in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Hi prof. If it's just a two or three storey building then I don't mind using the stairs to get that daily warm up. Sadly I worked in a ten storey building and we're at the penthouse so I can't imagine walking all the way up to the 10th floor when I go to work. There were time that the elevators are stuck on occasions but it's not a problem getting down but going up is a nightmare.

The lift, I think, is better. It is faster and you don't need to be exhausted after that. When you ho up the stairs you get wet sometimes and that is not very convenient at all. And it is smelly so it not good to smell all day. The lift is always the better choice if not broken then go up or down the stairs. Happy myLotting to all :) Best wishes :)

Yes the lift is always better especially in hot weather and if the place is too high. But then the second or third storey building will just warm your body and you won't even sweat. But if you're the type of person who sweats a lot and if you're going to work then it's best to use the lift every time.

Well, in the house I live in now, we have stairs you must climb to get up and down which I feel is good as it gives me a chance to get some Good excercise. Even with having issues with my leg due to falling a couple of months ago, and even with being Diabetic I feel the walking gives me a better chance to keep motivated and move around to keep the circulation flowing. Now if I lived in an Apt complex or condo or something, or staying in a Hotel room it will often depend on the situation what I decide to do and what works Best for me.

Unless I am extremely in a hurry I always use the stairways if the it is only up to 3rd or fourth floor. This is very good for my heart I believe so I always take advantage of this opportunity to exercise. My office is at the 3rd floor so everyday, each morning I always take the stairs to my office instead of using the lift. I believe this has been really helpful in keeping me fit.

Yes. I was held up on an elevator at work. But one or two flights of stairs are nothing to me. I prefer taking the stairs. I do not understand why people buy a stair climbing machine when there are stairs everywhere!

I go up and down the steps approximately 12 times a day. I am in the basement of a a2 story building, but most of my students are on the top floor. I am up and down all the time. I do have a student who is handicapped and when she is with my group then we take the elevator. That is the only time.

no, i never experienced that till now. i stay in second floor but ok because i dont go out at all. may be once to pic my baby from the school. she likes step. i suggest you to take steps all the time and one important is, you have to get down slowly and while climbing fast. it was told by our teacher. we use to get down very fast and she told us very briefly thats about our heart. it is good to heart while climbing up faster and not good to get down faster. i think you got it. have nice climbing :-)

Hello my friend... I am fortunate because I live in a bungalow (singled story house in the UK) so I don't have to chose between stairs or lift. If I did live on first or second floor though, I would always use the stairs because this would help to keep me fit. As it is now, I have to make a point of getting out for a walk very day because I work from home and I am sitting down most of the day. With the freezing weather, I have noticed that this has effected my vitality recently because I have not gone out walking enough. From the beginning of this week though, I have changed this and walked out every day for around half-an-hour. _Derek

If it was just first or second floor as long as I am not carrying grocery bags, I can prefer to walk and use the stairs. It is really healthy to use the stairs and you are right when you say about power interruption. Nothing can be so annoying than to be stuck on an elevator or lift. But just as what I have said, this depends on the situation. If I am carrying a lot of loads, then I would never challenge myself to use the stairs. I use the lift to avoid getting leg cramp or leg pains. I am not that old but I know the limit of my body and I don't want to get body aches so I won't use the stairs. Another thing that I consider using the lift is when I am really in a hurry and I wanted to go down, I just use the elevator or lift. We live on the 5th flr. so we really do use the lift.

I always try to use stairs instead of lifts because ot is beneficial for health and saves some electricity as well. yes, I cannot climb 20 floor building using stairs but try to manage till 506 floors. I have not been in the similar situation that you faced in the lift and hope that I do not have to. Thank you for sharing.

In olden days there were no lifts and as young man I could easily climb up by stairs. With the introduction multistoried buldings the necessity for lifts is felt and I have also grown in age.Wherever there is fecility of lift I invariably go by lift.Going by lift is not fashion but a necessity now a days and even youngster use lift only for various reasons. As regards being held up in lift I too had similar experience. If I am held up in a lift what could I do other than wating for the power to resume and also silently praying God to relieve me soon.As a matter of fact what else can any one can either young or old when stuck up in lift for failure of power except silently offering prayers in darkess for relief and perhaps that is how God wants us to remember Him..
