Hello, the old testament concerns the Jews, how they became a chosen people, the laws set by God that every Jew should follow like the Sabbath and foods that are considered to be clean or unclean, example are those that crawl on the belly, split hooves and chew the cud are considered clean, etc... etc... so basically the Old testament is about Jewish laws and concern only Jews. The New testament on the other hand concerns the birth of a savior and that is Jesus Christ, it talks about salvation not only by a chosen few(the Jews) but also the gentiles ( non Jewish like me). The savior which is Jesus will save every one, not thru the law which no body can fellow to the last word anyway, but salvation by grace that anyone who believes in him and his name irregardless of race will have an opportunity of salvation. This is the difference and I answered the post as I understand it to be,and so sorry if others think otherwise, anyway they are free to respond themselves

Hello friend, actually bible are composed of 66 books, in which old testaments are 39 books from Genesis to Malacai, then new testament are 27 from Matthew to Revelation. Old testaments are historical events of Israel which the most highlight was the 10 commandments, the new testaments are direct story how Jesus christ came into our earth (all about Jesus Christ and his ministry). see you around

The difference is that the new testament is after Jesus was born. The old testament alerts to his coming thousands of years before it ever happens. The old testament required that laws were followed and animals were sacrificed, the new testament sent a man, Jesus, became the sacrificial lamb.

I love the fact you are asking this question. I have possibly a different answer than the others I've read here. I am not a bible scholar, but here is a my simple understanding. The word "testament" means a covenant, or binding agreement. The old testament was G-ds old binding agreement between Him and man kind. The new Testament, is the G-ds new binding agreement between Him and man kind. So of course the question is, what was the old 'binding agreement', and what is the new 'binding agreement'? Long answer to this. The binding agreement between G-d and man, involves how he will save people from their own sins. What are sins? Well that is doing evil and failing G-d. If you read Genesis 3, you know that man choose to disobey G-d, and became a sinner. So what was G-d's binding agreement to deal with sin? In Leviticus (the book of laws), you'll read about the sacrificial system. Here is a simple list of how the sacrificial system works. http://home.earthlink.net/~lionlamb/SacrificialSystem.html Thus in order to be saved, you simply had to follow the sacrificial system, and your sins would be atoned for. However there was a problem. Not with his plan, but with the people who turned away from G-d even while doing the plan. Isaiah 29:13 says "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught." In other words, they were going to the temple, dropping off their sacrifice, and going through the motions, but not really following G-d with their hearts. So G-d came up with a new plan. The new Testament. The new binding agreement. So what is it? Of course the answer is Jesus Christ, the son of G-d. John 3:16-18 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son." Now wait a second, that's totally difference from the old testament. Did G-d fail to keep the old binding agreement? Not exactly. Jesus was more than a new agreement, but he also fulfilled the old agreement to. Jesus was himself, the lamb sacrifice for sin. John 1:29 says "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" Jesus put himself as the sacrifice for sin, according to the old testament law. In essence, he fulfilled the requirements of the sacrificial system. 1 Peter 2:24 "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed." Thus, the new testament through Jesus, is the conclusion and completion, of the old testament. The new testament through Jesus, do some other things as well. It opened up the salvation of G-d to everyone. Prior, salvation was of the Jews. Why? Because they had the temple, the sacrificial system, and the law. In order to have your sins forgiven, you had to sacrifice in the temple, which was only in Jerusalem. You had to offer what the Jews offered. In effect you had to become a Jew. But because Jesus was infinite G-d, he was an infinite sacrifice, and he could cover infinite people. Thus anyone who accepts Jesus as Lord, and the gift of salvation can be saved. Which is why the world of non-Jews can be saved through Jesus, a Jew. We don't need to sacrifice, or go to the Temple in Jerusalem. The sacrifice has already been made, and we only need to accept it, and Him, as Lord.

They're books. The Bible is divided into old & new testaments. The old testament is what Jewish people follow. its called the Torah to them. CHristians acknowledge the old testament and keep it in the bible, but usually read the new testament and learn from its teachings. hope this helps! =]

You will know the difference when you read the entire Bible. Physically the Bible is consist of two parts, the Old Testament, which is all prophesy about Jesus Christ, and the New Testament, which is the realization of the prophesy on Jesus Christ. But, there is more than what I mentioned. Read the Bible and you will know.
