why doesnt mtv play music videos anymore?

That's exactly why I NEVER watch MTV anymore. I can't stand most of those shows. I'd rather watch music videos but they don't even do music anylonger.

MTV IS BS and has been so for a long-long time now. They only show pointless reality shows and lame comedians, and even when they DO play some myusic, it's all the same mainstream bullsh!t. My advice? Boycott MTV. Get your music from independent, quality sources ;)

I was just thinking the same thing. One of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was on Ellen this morning and my first thought was, "Where is this show airing? How come I don't see it in the tv listings?" I then thought about the other reality shows (Jersey Shore) and realized they are all on MTV. Then I thought that MTV was supposed to be for music videos. So what does the "M" in MTV stand for now if not music? I guess it is like others have said, we can watch music videos online. Really, we can watch almost anything online. If I miss my favourite show I know I can watch it online the day after it airs. As for the music videos, does anyone really want to sit down and watch music video after music video after music video? I have done that... on the computer. But I got to choose what I wanted to watch. On TV you watch whatever they choose to air. I have one daughter who watches pretty much nothing but the Family channel (Disney shows). There are no commercials but they slip music videos in between shows. Granted they are family friendly music videos like Selena Gomez. Television has to evolve with the times but I think if a channel is called a music channel then it should be a MUSIC CHANNEL. There is a reality tv channel now (at least here) but they are showing old seasons of reality shows, not current seasons. Much Music was geared towards teens and I guess the only way they can keep their audience is by giving them what they want... that reality bunk.

I was there for the birth of MTV. I was there all of the time. It was the place to watch all of my favorite videos. now they seem to be more about programming instead. I enjoywatching jersey shore but I miss the MTV era where they were about the videos instead.

Yes... .I don't watch their crappy shows anymore....and even if they play music sometimes...mostly bubblegum pop videos...I would rather watch music videos on youtube....me and my friend do not give a damn about their meaningless reality shows....we are die hard music fans and internet is our source of music now....

Have you heard about youtube and myspace, You can find music videos there. Plus its betetr to find music by your own than swallow what is being over promoted.

Welcome to Mylot. Why MTV plays Reality TV shows? It is all about trying to get more viewer and of course money. Personally I'm kinda sick of this reality TV shows. Why they said it is relity? It look fake. I wish this trend just end. Too much reality TV shows nowadays messing with our head. As for MTV, most of it are produced by them. Mybe they want some variety in their program. not just Music video.
