I remember the first time I used my PC. I was so afraid of closing windows because I thought the data that I typed will be gone forever. I then realized that there's such a thing called memory and there's such a function called SAVE. I also remember one time where I was so frustrated because I can't connect to the internet. It turns out that I didn't have the one important thing required: A MODEM.
Sheesh. Now I look like a fool but I know there are so many others out there like me who made pretty funny mistakes/misconceptions regarding computers. Share your own experiences and we will laugh at you--- no, scratch that, we will laugh with you.

I was so paranoid. I have worked in customer service for nearly thrity years so have been working with computers in some way for all those years. When I first started I worked at an answering service on a night shift and one of my responsibilities was to do maintenance and back up on the main computer. I was so nervous when I first started. I learned alot and fast. It was major important and I paid attention and enjoyed it. Then in my other jobs I would go back and make sure I had everything saved right and I was always afraid I would erase some important file but was glad to learn how hard that really is. Now I love the computer and know a bit about how it works and how to do maintenance on one. I am no whiz at it but know enough to keep one going.

The first time that I used a computer was actually in the late 80s when having a PC in your home was something that most people didn't have. I always had to know the key string to enter so that I could run programs from the 5.25 inch floppy disks. Most of the funny mistakes that I made with that was that I would type in the wrong keystrings and I couldn't get anything to run. Of course there were also a couple of times that I discovered hidden files that way.

Most funniest first thing I did was.. I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow key.. which rotate my monitor screen to 180.. I was confused that I got virus.. I might did something wrong.. restarted 10-12 times.. lol.. at the end called hardware engineer (!!) who told me it's just you pressed hot keys. hahaa.. I can't forget that..

Forgot how to list the file directory on MS-DOS. LOL. Oh yah. I also used to copy files from a floppy disk to another floppy 1 file at time, not knowing that I can use wild card characters to copy a group of file at the same time.
I was 12 yrs old and it was 1987. Hehe.

This one time, I was having troubles with my processor. It got heated up every now and then, shutting down any moment. So I had to disassemble the whole thing. I pulled apart the motherboard and all its components. Then I discovered the the thermal paste that is used on the back of a processor is worn out. I didn't know what to do. I checked out the paste and it was similar to toothpaste. So I bought a whole new tube of toothpaste and put some of it on the back of the processor. Then after I assembled the computer again, it worked fine. Everything went okay for a few more days until the system broke down permanently. I had to buy a new motherboard and processor, but this time I didn't use the toothpaste. I brushed with the toothpaste that was left in the tube.
