Many people have the hobby to collect the currencies notes and coins as a sovereign. I don't understand the purpose of doing so. In fact, the money we own is for us to spend and to invest. When we keep those currencies notes and coins as sovereigns, they will lost their values later. I am sure many currencies notes and coins collectors will disagree to me. May I know if there is any good reason to persuade me in this hobby?

Banana Money (duit pisang) - The Japanese government-issued dollar was a form of currency issued by Imperial Japan during the Japanese occupation of Singapore, Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak, and Brunei between 1942 and 1945. It is so called the "banana money" because of the motifs of banana trees on 10 dollar banknotes.
There are all kind of people in this world and they all having different interest on something, some people like to collect notes and coins, and that is for sure, is their interest. Some of the people only collect specially currencies notes or coins that printed wrongly and they believe that it has the value and when time goes by, the value will increase and later they can sell it for a higher value. Just like the banana money that issued by the Japanese government during the Japanese occupation of Singapore, Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak, and Brunei between 1942 and 1945, the 10 dollar notes worth RM75 per piece. So, you can see what is the value of such a collection.

So fantastic. As what I can recall my late grandfather's story, they bought a full big bag of the Japanese's currency notes when they just surrendered in Malaya. Later, they found out those notes lost their value. Unluckily, they threw all of those useless papers away. Damn, they should keep them for me to sell now.

They throw a full big bag of the Japaneses banknotes? What a waste, if they keep it till today, how much will the whole bag of money worth. But you can't blame on them, they hated the Japanese so much, so it is not a surprise if they throw away everything that related to Japanese. Who will know that a useless paper will worth RM75 today?

ha! ha! ha! Maybe when you were young, you never know the useful of money. When you are adult, you realize the value and power of money whereby you can use it to buy a lot of things that you like. As such, you never want to keep the currencies as hobby.

You are not keeping the foreign currencies notes and coins for sovereign. ha! ha! ha! You finally convert those notes and coins into your own currency to spend. You are smart. Just spend and enjoy what you have at the moment. We never know what is going on later. Good luck to you

I am no collector but do know that many do so as they feel the value for years to come will increase in value. I suppose this is only warranted on rarity and uniqueness of certain collector coins.
