What are your thoughts on the iPad?

I've been contemplating an iPad for awhile. Yes, they're expensive, but with the new one due out in a couple of months, I'm sure the 1st generation ones will be dropping in price. I've gotten a few opinions from friends, mostly saying I should wait until they've been around for a few years, so that Apple can work out the kinks. It was also mentioned that there are no USB ports on the current model. Well what do I need USB ports for? I'm not looking to upload my pictures or videos to it, or anything like that, that's what my computer is for. Here are some of my thoughts on the matter. There are a few things about the iPad that appeal to me. First, the Kindle app would save me the $140 or so that it could cost me to buy a Kindle. It would also, be a lot lighter to take along with me when I travel than my laptop, for keeping up on email, etc. Added bonuses include the apps available that can be beneficial for children with Autism (my son has Autism), and the Netflix app, which would allow me to watch movies from Netflix on it -- another particularly useful tool for travel, particularly with my son. If I can load a favorite movie or show from Netflix for him to watch, it would keep him calmer and happier. What are your thoughts on the iPad? What kind of experiences have you had?

in my opinion ipad or other tablets available right now are useless...in reality they won't do nothing of really especial if compared wth other devices so in many cases if you own a good smartphone you can do the same things you will having a tablet so not really useful!!

According to the needs that you specifically mentioned, i believe that you must buy them. By the way this response is late and right now the schedule for the release of the new ipad 2 has been released which is on the 11th of this March. The price of ipad has reasonably dropped here in my country and way much cheaper in the black market. I have long been considering getting an ipad but with the release of the new one, i decided to get the ipad 2 for myself and the ipad first gen for my son. If you haven't bought yet, i suggest you should get it now.

I haven't used or even held and Ipad before but I think it's cool. If what you're saying is true, they're going to decrease the price, I'll be considering on buying one. It'd be great to have a palm top/laptop with me when I'm out. It would also be faster using opera mini browser installed in it than installed in my s40 mobile phone which takes about a minute to load a page.

I don't have an Ipad, but some of my friends does, and i use it for a little while, in my opinion, is the thing you can buy, you can do all kind of stuff with it, and is very easy to use and very practical not to heavy and not to big, and they have a lot of software of all type.
