What genre do you like?

It's been my experience that the trully successful and popular writers pick a genre they like and feel comfortable with and stick to it. Like Jim Butcher with urban fantasy, Jeffery Deaver with mystery/thriller genre, Tess Gerritsen in mystery. Me, I love urban fantasy genre (read and write it), I read a lot of mystery/thriller authors and I don't say no to romance (espewcially if it has supernatural components). And I was wondering what genre(s) you read and what you just love writing. Do you stick to one genre or are more versatile? Share your favorites!

I like sf and do write it, well, when I'm not suffering from writers block.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, so you don't get writer's block too often! It's a terrible, terrible thing when you want to write but the wroter's block makes it impossible.

Oh come on! There are so many ways to get rid of the writer's block! None of them worked for you?

I'm very attached to my high fantasy novels and I love reading and writing that genre. However, I don't really think that authors should restrict themselves to one particular genre. Some writers like more than one genre. I know I'd kind of like to venture into more speculative fiction like science fiction and supernatural stories. Those are some other genres that I really enjoy.

I used to love high fantasy, but then I kinda felt the genre itself had become stagnant. Which brought me to urban fantasy which looked very fresh and interesting. And if I can be a little selfish, I'd like to support you venturing into supernatural genre, mostly because I love supernatural stories (bonus points for warewolves!)

To be honest, urban fantasy seems really stagnant to me. I just prefer stories that take me away to a whole new world. I don't much like were-wolves to be honest. When I think of supernatural then I think of angels and demons and other things that are beyond explanation. Vampires, were-wolves, and the paranormal monsters I was never really interested in.

Interesting perspective. Somehow I've never actually thought about angels and demons when thinking about supernatural. Though I suppose it's a good trail of thought since it hasn't been covered much in the genre.

I read pretty much anything, but I am weird in the sense that I actually prefer non fiction, because I love to learn while I read as well. So non fiction for me, please!

Since I write a lot of non-fiction I can only say: Non-Fiction rules! (and keep reading!)

i like to read different books with various topics but i am more inclined to reading anything fiction because it goes into the beyond. whether it is romance, adventure or thriller as long as it's interesting i read it.

It's good to be a versatile reader. Because it provides you will all those choices since there are so many books and different genres and subgenres... I envy you a little, since I can't just read anything, I have my favorite types of stories and I'm unwiling to sacrifice what little free time I have on something I don't know if I'll enjoy...

To me music is music. I will listen to anything in any language as long a sit makes sense, creative and is sending a positive message. Music is too divided by its different genre.

I was thinking about a book genre, but what you said about music applies to books too, I feel. People are crossing genres more and more often nowadays.
