They were going to protest at that poor little girls funeral today. But decided not to. Why? Well not out of the kindness of their hearts...or because they realized it was wrong.
"The controversial Westboro Baptist Church initially vowed to picket the young girl's funeral, but later said it would not after it got an offer for 30 minutes of airtime on a radio program"
http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/01/13/arizona.memorial/index.html?hpt=Sbin
To the radio station...thank you. I know you really didn't want to give them a platform to broadcast themselves....but you did the right thing in sparing her family and friends from having to go through them protesting her funeral.
Well at least we now they can be bought. This is all about publicity, money and fame for them. So is anyone else thinking we should all get together and see how much money we can come up with buy them off permenantly? Or how about we get a network to offer them a reality TV show if they promise to NEVER protest at a funeral again? The network could put it on at like 4am so no one would really see it. Heck even if they did not put it on at 4am..whenever they put it on...people could just NOT watch it. Which is better than the families of the deceased having to deal with them at a funeral.
What do you think? It is definately interesting that they can be bought. Maybe we can find a way to get rid of them using it. What are your ideas?

i think they'd just keep asking for more and more - since they have just realised that as well as provoking people into attacking them (so they can sue) they can also blackmail the general public. i've gathered that money is one of, if not the, main motives for their despicable actions.

I'm not for buying them off (although I'm glad the radio station did step in...this time. The plan is no one will listen to the broadcast the day WBC rep talks...the next day everyone tunes in to tell the radio producers we appreciate what they did).
I still want to "get them" legally. There's something someone in that "church" has done that we should be able to nail them on. I want to take them to court and soak them for every dime the church and each of its members have.
No, I don't want to "buy them off"...there's got to be another way.

I would LOVE to see someone legally take them down. But the problem is they are a family of lawyers...so the KNOW the law. They ride a very fine line...but so far they have been able to make sure they don't go over it.

yep. You are right. I just don't understand their logic. All they are doing is offending everyone and ticking people off. Not exactly winning people over. But then I don't think they care about "winning" people over.

We just need the Internet hate machine to go after them and it would be full of lulz and Epic Win the public would cheer Anonymous's name until they realized an Anon had hacked into their computer and stole their facebook and twitter accounts.

Anonymous has done somethings like have a protest within their protest with messages like "God loves you", "Jesus was Gay" and other messages to counter the WBC. In Hawaii they took some flags from the WBC and also some posters the Police didn't do anything about it as the WBC was insulting the Police so they just sat there and watched these guys do it. Then a few times Anonymous has Blanketed the WBC protest by placing a giant blanket infront of them so one one could see them or the signs I think this was during a Gay Pride Event in San Fran.

It really surprises me that there has NOT been more of a backlash against them. Not that I am saying anyone should do anything illegal.

Good for that radio station...but I was hoping to see those folks arrested and hauled off to jail. I wouldn't give them their own show though. I can't support rewarding such a hateful group and possibly encouraging it's growth.

can't haul them off to jail. Peaceful protesting is a right. And they are lawyers so anyone who has gone after them has been sued. They have won a lot money that way.

Yes, I read that as well. Crazy nuts. I guess it's a way for them to voice their opinion to a larger crowd, the more, the better. But I am most thankful the families can mourn for their loved ones in PEACE!!!!!
Same thing happened at the shooting of the Amish girls, the WBC people were "bought off" with air time by a local radio company.
Bought off with air time....so sad
*sigh*
Look, there's the Freedom of Speech, and yes, I fully recognise that...but these people are totally making a nuisance of themselves and interfering with the general public. Please, politicians, where's the fine line here? Prosecute the buggers for hate crimes, I don't care if they're a family of lawyers or not. The stuff they're doing cuts really, really deep. They're not respectfully disagreeing with homosexuality as a doctrine/lifestyle issue like most of us Christians are doing, they're PROVOKING those guys with foul language and obscene signs.
I'd better stop before I get into a rant.....

Would you chip in on one way plane tickets to a deserted island in the middle of nowhere? Less lethal approach to solving the problem.

Yep. I know the feel. Pretty Nonprofit here too. But that is exactly what it is. One family that decided to form their own church and cause mayham.

Well they have been all over the news and doing protests for years and NO ONE has joined their "church". The only people in their "church" all belong to the same family. I really don't see people joining them. Maybe people should start protesting them. See how they like it.

hilil wonder yes I am so glad as the family of the poor little girl'did not need that harrasment at all. they have had enough grief. So the radio station now has to listen to their drivel for what an hour . at least they are letting the childs family have some peace for once. yes it
would be great to buy them off permanently.
