The other day I went shopping for a new blanket. I just wanted a nice warm blanket the ones that I found were very pretty but they were so thin they didn't feel like they would keep a person warm. They felt nice and soft to snuggle up in but so thin. I have been looking for a nice seater too but they are all so thin that in order to keep warm one would have to have two or three of them on. They cost the same as they used to but seem so flimsy. My granddaughter got me a snuggie for Christmas and it is so thin that I have to have it folded up four time to keep my legs warm. Is it me or are all winter clothing thinner?

I never gave it much thought before but you are so right. blankets, snuggies and such are thinner. Now that I think of it even thermal underware, (long johns) are thinner too. The material used to be much thicker. I guess its like everything, they charge more and you get less product. Its even hard to find thick socks, and if you do find them. They cost an arm and a leg.

Hello Polly. How are you doing these days? I b et that granddaughter is getting big. How old is she now? I think you are right. I am aware of putting less in the grocery area but didn't make a connection with the clothes until you mentioned it.

I haven't noticed that the clothing has gotten thinner. I have a lot of heavy sweaters that keep me warm when it's so cold outside. And my brother and his girlfriend bought me a warm blanket from Bed Bath & Beyond for Christmas and it is very big and thick and warm. It's actually a blanket made for 2 people to stay warm under. I love that blanket and I cover up with it almost every night.

It's not just you! It seems like everything is flimsy and not warm at all any more. Manufacturers keep cutting costs and quality so that things are hardly worth buying any more. I think they don't really expect people to turn the thermostats down or to get outside much when it's cold. Or something. :)
I second the thought that you should try thrift stores. If you're afraid of bedbugs, keep the items in plastic bags until you can dump them in the washing machine with hot water and detergent. I shop at thrift stores all the time and have never had a problem, although it may depend on where you are.

everything seems thinner and cheaper anymore.it's almost impossible to find a decent pair of socks anymore..i usually end up wearing 3 or 4 pairs, and holes appear quickly with few washes.
i have a full length down coat i've had since i was 17,and there's no way on earth i'd give it up,because nothing sold nowadays compares to it.

Reading your header, for a moment i thought if this was about winter clothes, lol. You can add that up too, winter clothes seem to get thinner as well. I haven't felt that with the blankets though, but yeah i do have some thin ones i had from earlier and they don't help, alone. I have to cover myself up with three of those kind of blankets to survive the night. It gets quite cold at our place and thick blankets are a must, as it reaches freezing temperatures at times.

I never noticed really. Either the companies do it to save money, or it is because of global warming I guess, haha!

You are right, they are thinner!
When I moved back to the Midwest 3 years ago I got some sweatpants to wear casually. They were always warm and cozy in the past and I didn't have occasion to wear them or buy them when I lived in the Southwest. Well, the first time I wore them outside the wind sliced through them as if I wasn't wearing anything!
Everything has gotten thinner and the material used is cheaper. You will not get quality unless you spend a LOT of money on something made in America and maybe not even then.
I still wear fleece pants and sweatpants but I wear thermal underwear beneath them if I'm going outside.

Well I moved north to Michigan from South Carolina But still had some warm clothes but wanted get a cardigan like sweater to over the shirts but the one I found was so thin I didn't think it would be very warm. The thing about sweat pants for me is I have to get them too big in the seat in order to pull them up. The waist bands are too tight and uncomfortable for me.

Yes, I entirely agree, I've been trying to buy a jumper for this year and they are so expensive now - and also very flimsy. For about £35, the quality was very thin and I just didn't feel it was worth the money to buy any this year, plus the material they use is also not very good quality either, after a couple of washes the material always shrinks or fluffs up with lint. I still have a jumper from 15 years ago and cost only £10, it has been washed more than 20 times and the material is still almost perfect! Just looks a bit old fashioned! :)

The quality is going down on clothing and the price up so the greedy producers need to be cheaper.
You cant even compare the quality of clothes and shoes today and 20-30 years ago.
