Hello friends of mylot. I need to know about this, because this last week I've had a lot of homework from school, and when I mean a lot, it's A LOT! So I haven't slept well this week. I've slept 5 hours a day this last days. Is it not good for our health to sleep 5 hours a day? I've heard that it's good to sleep 8 hours a day, but I generally sleep a maximum of 7 hours 30 mins. This next week I have a lot of test at school, and homework too, so I think I'll sleep few hours this upcoming week too. Is it bad for me? I'm a teen, I'm 16 years old, and I have felt any fatigue or something like that.

hello, You are very busy. But be careful of your health because it is bad for you you must try to sleep 8 hours. You do your homework if you have free time at school for you not to disturb sleeping at night. Maybe there is a effect to you but you dont notice it at all because you are too busy. good luck dont be so stress

Hi, Ricextreme! I'm a mother of a girl who is older than you but I still remember her school years. I don't agree with the systems that make children study too much with doubtful results. I don't want to make you give up learning, lol, but I'll tell you take care about your health.

I can't function properly the following day if I don't get at least six hours of sleep. Now i average 7 hours of sleep every night and I try not to deviate from that. It takes discipline. I understand you are beating a lot of school requirements, but that should not take the upper hand. Your health should be the number one priority. Take a look at your time management - you might still be able to improve that aspect.

Yes, it is possible. But it will surely affect your health, or even damage it. You should give yourself ample rest for your body to repair cell damage, and for rejuvenation. If you will not have a healthy sleeping habit, soon you will find yourself in deep trouble.

Not normally, no. But, have you heard of the Uberman sleep schedule? The one where you only sleep for 2 hours a day. How do you do it? Sleep in 4 times a day, once out of every 6 hours, 30 minutes at a time. It is said that after your body gets used to it, you will get your needed REM sleep, and even more of it. I wouldn't reccomend it, sure you get the amount you need for your mind, but I do not believe you get enough to repair your body.

That's interesting. I've never heard about it. Some of my friends practice it, but not in 2 hours period, but they sleep two times a day, 4 hours each period. But they're always kind of sleepy, so I think that they don't get the necessary rest.

my normal hour is 6-8. but there really are times that i sleep less than that. there was this one times, just few months ago that i went through sleeping problem. i only get 2-3 hours of sleep and i get irritated most of the time. no matter how long i close my eyes just to get back to sleep, it's not working. so i go to the office, sleepless, hungry due to lose my appetite because of no sleep. so i end up sleeping during my working hours, thank goodness my supervisor is not that strict.

I am thirteen years old and I too personally feel that I get alot of homework as well. But now I have realised that we should start managing our time. Even though I don't really know how to manage time properly, I am still trying my best to learn how to manage one's time. It is not that we should involve our whole mind completely towards academics, but we should also spend a little time in doing something else which can make us feel relaxed. In my case, how much ever homework I get, I make sure that I have got some time to spend on facebook. Because if I do not spend even a few minutes on facebook I cannot concentrate on what I am studying. So what I do is that when I return home from school, I have my lunch and then I surf the internet and by 6 in the evening, I start my homework taking short very short breaks. And yes, while I do my homework I even watch television so as to be in a good mood. And in case, I don't finish my homework, I complete the homework in school. It's just that we should know how to manage our time. If we do not know how to manage one's time, then for sure we will feel that we have got alot of burden.

of course it's possible~ can you believe that until yesterday the longest sleep I have is 30 mins. that's because I'm so busy doing lay-outs for a school paper and we need to get them all perfect done----- so we can reach the DEADline~ hahah lol!! yes- there's a lot of people in this world that can't afford to reach the eight hours sleep protocol due to their own personal circumstances :)) but still lack of sleep is very unhealthy so try hard not to faint in your exam day..(*o*=) ~take care~

Yeah it's true that a teenager should sleep at least 8 hours a day but 5 hours of sleep is not so bad. It's actually the quality of sleep you get not the number of sleeping hours that counts. Even if you sleep for 5 hours only but you are sleeping soundly thus you really have a good night's sleep then it's enough. There are times when you actually sleep 8 hours or more & yet upon waking up, you don't feel good because you feel groggy & your head aches then you are not getting a quality sleep. Oversleeping is not good also.

hey, you should better adjust your time. that's because sleep is really important to people .if they don't sleep well it would certainly affect their energy the next day. Plus, you are young, try to get some more sleep and it will be fine. Don't worry too much, you should talk to your school and tell them about your situation. i think that would be good idea. anyway, take care of yourself. happy mylotting!

Yes it is possible to sleep for just a few hours a day. Sleeping gives your body the time to rest and to rebuild itself. So it is not advisable to make a routine of just sleeping a few hours a day. As a child you need to sleep more than when you are an adult. Adults need approx 8 hours of sleep every day.

It can be. Just don't make it a habit.

I agree that you need 8 hours sleep as eventually the lack of it will catch up with you and you will be exausted.

hello, You are on your teen years and you really need to have enough sleep as much as you can becoz your body needs it. It's not for health to have inadequate sleep. You must have at least 7-8 hours of sleep everyday...and,avoid sleeping late night. If you can't avoid to sleep late due to school assignments and projects, make sure you are eating all the healthy foods and more on fruits than junkfoods. Have a great weekend

5 hours isn't very little time, though as you say you sleep for 4 hours due to homework, that means you are very tired all the day and spend only a few hours in bed. you are not being fair to your body as you are overworking it and definitely headed for a poor healthy. i once tried that when i was you age at high school and after some time i almost suffered fatique. since then i consider my health first, after all what will i benefit if i have all teh degrees in the world and and very poor healthy?

Yes it is bad. You need at least 8 hours of sleep for your body to rest. With that 5 hour sleep and the homeworks, you will really feel that fatigue. You should sleep at least 8 hours and prioritize your time. Maximize the time before you sleep by doing all what you have to do.
