My cat will be six years old soon, and he' a pretty happy cat most of the time I feed him his regular daily meals of dry indoor cat food that he seems to enjoy. And occasionally I feed him a small amount of his favorite wet food as a treat, he gets so exited when he sees the little can, and when he eats it I happen to notice that the fur down his back stands up just slightly but this only happens when eats his one of his favorite treats. why dose my cats fur stand up while he eats somthing he likes, and is this normal cat behaviour dose your cat fur stand up like my Kitty's fur dose when eats somthing he really enjoys too?

No, not that I've noticed. If anything, their fur stands up with they are scared.

How cute! I have never noticed that happen to any of my cats. When they get something they like, such as a canned food treat, they prance and meow. Lovie will rub on my leg. They sit up and paw, and they talk a whole lot when I'm getting their canned food ready. When I begin to put the food down on the floor, o, my. It sounds like they haven't eaten in days they get so noisy! You cat sounds like he really enjoys his treats and is very happy to get them.

Hahahaha! That is soooo cute that you sing to your cat. I sing to mine too. We have entire conversations most of the time. It is funny. I don't know about weird, but it's cute that his hair stands up. He probably purrs while he's eating it too. Mine do!

My tomcat, a dom sh tabbie, doesn't do this, but my Bombay mix kitten sure does. The kitten's hair stands up on his back and he makes all kinds of funny noises that sound like he's about to get into a fight when he gets tuna. It's pretty amusing :)

I never really paid that much attention to my cats' fur while they were eating. this is something I will probably watch for now. It would be interesting to see what eating habits will do for a cat.

Hey Apples...Is your cat a rescue cat? Is there any other pets around? Those are the explainables that are easy. If no other and kitty is just a normal pet...(if there are normal pets in the cat world)his mind is telling him this is his mine and it is good. Its like the last piece of Pie or Candy to us humans, we put it on 'High Alert Status" and we want to protect are interest in it. I know my hair has stood up on the back of my kneck when the cookie was taken....you? Hope this helps apple....

Well he's sort of a rescue cat I found him laying next to my back screen door nearly six years ago, he was in pretty bad shape back then, but very friendly and never aggressive. I nursed him back to health and had him with me ever since, as for other cats living in the home nope I just have one cat right now, this strange behavior seems harmless because he has never bitten or scratched me during meals his fur just stands up while he eats.

I've had a few cats who have hair stand on end when they were/are happy/excited. Mostly its like the base of the tail, but if they got really excited it moved up along the spine a bit. No idea why, the cat who we had do it first was in no way related to the other one. It is cute, and I think you can use it to gauge how much he likes something!
