Many things could be said about this awards. I believe that Messi without Iniesta or Xavi doesn't play as well as when they play with him, and it was clearly demonstrated in all Argentina matches, those matches during and prior to the World Cup.
Xavi demostrated he could play in the Spain squad as well as he does when he plays in Barcelona. So, the award should have gone to Xavi instead of Messi.
In the coaching award I was shocked to see that Oscar Tabarez (uruguay's coach) wasn't considered a strong candidate to the award. I believe that the 4th place achieved by Uruguay is far more remarkable than the World Cup achieved by Spain. I believe almost everybody tipped Spain as the clear favourite to win the cup so I wasn't very surprised to hear that they actually won.
However, what Uruguay achieved was more than a mere 4th place, it was a massive change in the way people looked at uruguayan football. Before this, many considered uruguayan football was solely dedicated to fouls and interrupting the game, but now, its image has drastically changed for good. Because of this, uruguayan football amd uruguayan player are better known.
Also consider that the Uruguay squad was formed with players that most of them didn't have much continental reputation, quite opposite to Spain which all players had worldwide reputation.
With all this said, I think that Tabarez deserved to at least be considered more seriously for the award.

laviejo, it doesnt matter if your responds is very long..as long as related with our discussion, its OK...
let me reply one by one..
ok...
i wanna differentiate messi in barcelona and messi in argentina..
messi always had great expectations from his fans...
in barcelona, he is supported by many players, not only xavi and iniesta...dont forget too alves and abidal, two wing defender which always supply assist too for messi..
in argentina, maradonnna is not trained as well as coach..maradonna is good but only for players...he push veron which very old to support messi which very fast...
iniesta and xavi role should be replaced by riquelme in argentina position...
thats why i am doubt if messi can give the best if his friends is too older...
but it`s maradonna tactics...
and now about coach/..
many good coach..tabarez get his good year when he can get fourth position for uruguayn when many people ignore and underestimate his team..
but i think many people said that the mou is incredible this yeat...even i dont like mou

U know, I think Messi is really deserves as the best in the world because of his skill that has impact to his team and his friends, but I think Xavi has a good commander in his team right now like barca and spain team, and it really clears when he plays for Barcelona and probably in Spain, also I think Xavi is one of the best midfielder and commander of his team right now

For me it is a sign of inconsistency, because in 2002 and 2006 the best player award went to a player who has won the World Cup, even though those players who have won it haven't played the whole season or haven't played well all the season long.
Because of this, I was expecting Xavi to win the Golden Ball, because he has won the World Cup and has been constant all the year. Messi showed that he is great only when great passers like Xavi and Iniesta feed him, so this decision seems to me a rushed one.
As for best coach, I would have picked del Bosque, because he has won the most important competition and he had a short period of time to prepare it.
But this is how it is, so Messi should be congratulated, because he is an extraordinary player.

i know many contradiction about messi achievement...
ya, he is unlucky in world cup..
but if you want more fair, no doubt player like messi now..
messi is yes, can not bring his country...
but as overall in one season, he is wonderful...he can give magic when we see his performance..
for messi, football is art...he play football like singer sing..thats wonderful

It is wonderful for the spectators, but without good passes from his team mates, he wouldn't score so much. I agree, he is wonderful, but Xavi has won more in 2010 than him. This means that he has more influence on his team than Messi. I like both of them, but I would have preferred Xavi to win the Golden Ball.

I agree with both the choices. Mourinho won everything with Inter last season and thus was the best manager on show. Messi had another great season with Barcelona, though he could not quite reproduce that form at the international level. Even then he was by far the best player on show.
Cheers!

Messi is a world class player and he scored an astonishing 62 goals for Barca. Maybe that is the reason why he was given the award. But I think Xavi was more suitable candidate given his contribution for both Barcelona and Spain.
Mourinho deserved his award since he too Inter to a season treble victory that include Champions League victory for Inter after 40 years.
There was one more award worth mentioning. It was for the coach of the decade which went to Arsene Wenger. He is truly genius at nurturing young talent and developing them into world class footballers.

lucky, messi can get this trophy because all barcelona player and maybe argentinian players too
messi is great..but he is nothing without his friends..
same like xavi...xavi is great but he is useless if his friend can not help him..
i think debatable which is the better is always continuing because i and you maybe had a different side or view about the role of messi and xavi for their team

Messi could be a victory thanks to brilliant performances with Barca. The reason is as reinforce Argentina in World Cup 2010, Messi played a brilliant difficulties. Argentina was just up to the quarter-finals. While Spain's Xavi and Iniesta can be strengthened to be world champion, beat Mourinho's two Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola (Barcelona) and Vicente Del Bosque (Spanish national team). "The Special One" had become the fourth Portugal who received the award for best human soccer world.

I completely agree with them two, Messi is just unbelievable, the skills that he has to go past any player is amazing to watch and combined with his speed he is unstoppable. Mourinho, just one look at his records and you can tell he is obviously the greatest manager at the moment.
