I love watching Chinese movies especially Hong Kong movies. Ever since I was a kid, I've seen several Chinese films because our cable provider used to have Star Movies Chinese. Unfortunately, we no longer have it on our cable right now. It's been years since we had it.
I have several favorite Chinese movies:
- Everyday is Valentine (Leon Lai/Cecilia Cheung), Conman in Tokyo (Louis Koo/Nick Cheung), Hail The Judge (Stephen Chow), Love On A Diet (Andy Lau/Sammi Cheng), City Hunter (Jackie Chan), Dances With Dragon (Andy Lau), 36th Chamber of Shaolin (Gordon Liu), Future Cops (Andy Lau/Jacky Cheung/Ekin Cheng), Help (Jordan Chan/Cecilia Cheung), La Brassiere (Louis Koo/Sean Lau), Sleeping Fist (Lueng Kar Yan), God of Gamblers (Chow Yun Fat, and GoG3 too w/ Leon Lai), Tricky Master (Stephen Chow/Andy Lau), and many more.
I love Chinese movies because I find them unique. There are a lot of good comedies and action films out there. My favorite actors would be the four heavenly kings, mostly Leon Lai and Andy Lau. I like Nick Cheung too because he's really funny. I like him more than Stephen Chow and it's funny when he does spoofs of Leon's music videos like Sugar in the Marmalde, Cheun Yat Ngoi/One Day Love, & Ngaan Jing Seung Lui Hang/Eyes Want To Travel. I'm not sure of the translations though, I just copied them from a website.

We chinese people's names are very funny and there are some meaning in them. The characters are a little different with other languages .Every character has its meaning and value! For example,my name is Tian Huabing , my family name is TIAN,mu name is Huabing,it means that i was born in November 27,1987.It is cold and freezing then,it snowed and freezed! People expect the spring's coming soon,so Huabing means the ice gets melted.

Hello Tonytian,
I love watching Chinese movies. Most of it depicted their culture, traditions, history and beliefs. Its one of the rare films now a days that still showing their rich traditions with colorful costumes . Originality really capture my interest. From love story film with much actions doing martial arts, the technique in doing the fight with out using any high tech weapon really amaze me.Indeed, most of them, i received the message of even women can fight more than enough a man can do especially when equipped with proper technique in fighting. The kung fu, karate etc. i love to know them and i love most is the art fighting which is i think the tai chi.
Happy myLotting!!!

Hi there.
By the title of your discussion and the username you utilized here in mylot, I'm guessing that you're a Chinese yourself or if you're not, maybe you're just fond of Chinese movies yourself.
Well anyway, going on to your inquiry, I have to admit that I'm quite perplexed because you mentioned Chinese movies in your title; but you described American movies in the body of your discussion instead. I'll try to answer your query through my personal experience and opinion.
Foremost, I don't have any Chinese blood. But for so many years now, and as far as I can recall, I've watched many Chinese movies ever since I was a child. Even when I was about 9 or 10 years of age, I had the chance to watch these type of movies through our local networks. Unfortunately, I never remembered any of their titles. Some of the Chinese movies I can never forget are those which displayed the Chinese' prowess in martial arts, including Drunken Master and Shaolin Soccer. I also am delighted to watch Jet Li in The One, and some of his other movies which I can't remember anymore. Maybe a sign of stress!
As for the American films, I haven't had the opportunity to update myself of the latest movies. I have to say that it has been ages since I've watched an American film in the big screen; maybe about more than 8 years already. No kidding! That was the time when my husband and I were not yet married. But there are also great American movies which we enjoyed watching, like Cast Away and Titanic.
That's all for now. And before I forget, I'd like to welcome you here in mylot community, as I assume that you're quite a newbie here. Hope you'll enjoy it here. Regards.

Old Chinese films were all about martial arts. There was everything except good acting in those films. What I found in those movies are simply overacting and raw drama forcefully injected into inappropriate places. The stories were about fighting and fighting only. They tried to put some emotions and romance in that and it only made me laugh and roll on the floor. But then there was a total revolution in Chinese movie making. The movies that I watch today are totally different from what I used to watch a few years before. Today's Chinese movies have incorporated other aspects that fighting. These movies are not only about martial arts. There are social movies that show a lot of creativity. There are movies with romance and in a very practical way. The modern movie makers of China must be a new generation of thinkers. I really appreciate their bring about this reform in the film industry.

I really like Chinese movies... Or should I say Asian Movies. I like to see and know their culture. Their way of living especially in ancient times is very interesting. When you watch a Chinese movie, you will be intrigued by their culture. =)
