Card 11-Justice

Card 11-Justice - This is card 11 of the tarot, Justice
United States

Justice represents justice through truth and balance. It is like Maat or Themis who are over judgment, truth, and balance. It is akin to the way justice is depicted in American legal systems with scales, sword, and a blindfold. It is impartial, always truthful, and blind to deceit. On the Tree of Life Justice sits on the path between Tipareth (Beauty) and Geburah (Severity). We could say that it is severity balanced by beauty. Justice along with Strength, and The Hermit forms the ethical triangle. When one draws Justice in a tarot reading it symbolizes a legal matter though this matter is dependent upon the surrounding cards. This may be a legal matter as in the typical, but it may also be a signing of agreements where purchases are concerned, organizations, schooling, or even spiritual institutions are concerned. The negative could mean perhaps an injustice in your path or the matter at hand. Again it does depend greatly upon the surrounding cards. The lesson of Justice is to temper justice with compassion. Question: How do you perceive Justice? Do you see it on a personal scale or do you look for the larger picture?

Namaste Anora, I think I did not get the correct Idea of the question but have this (sorry if I got it wrong) - Being a partial "Libra" I do believe Justice cannot always be the same for all and does need a peek into the personal issues too - I mean if it works out good for him/her it is not that it would work out the same way for all. So I believe it is - "temper justice with compassion"

Sids- It is a bit like the law so to speak. Laws do not change because we know the person. If a person steals and there is a law against stealing, even if we are the judge and they are our friend the justice for the person who was stolen from is still the same, the thief is punished. Does that help make sense? I do believe though you are right that on our personal level of justice this may be different for what each person wants or seeks. Balance is key. Namaste-Anora

I think that to properly achieve balance in your life, you need to look at justice on a personal scale first and then on a larger picture second. The reason that I feel that it should be that way is because of the fact that our personal justice is not always completely in line with justice on the greater scale. In other words, though it is legal to drink in all of the states, that doesn't mean that it is something that is allowable by all families.

Dorann- Exactly! One must never give up one's own personal rules simply because it is permissible in a society, if that is not the path you wish to take. Just as one should never break the laws of society just because one is comfortable with those actions. For example, though one may like speeding one should adhere to the posted speed limit. It is definitely about balance. Namaste-Anora

I have a very long time friend who does Tarot. We no longer live near each other but this woman is amazing. As my our very first time we met was through another friend, who at the time could read me through medium and understood the great many difficulties I have/was going through at the time. She invited me to meet this Tarot friend, at which time I had absolutely no knowledge what so ever about Tarot, other then people utilizing it for predictions. She told me things that at the moment, I chuckled as all I could think of was, yeah right. Long and behold this woman predicted things month to month and a bit to the future. Amazed me while the months went on and the predictions were all falling into place. I do try and not live my life through tarot, but she is amazing. I have seen her maybe once every 4 years as the distance between us is not easy. But the few times I have seen her, and forgive me as I am not with the cards meanings and or names. I do recognize a few and have appreciated all your discussions as I somewhat now understand them more. Upon some of the visits I have had the Justice card has come up and I believe she has somewhat of psychic ability, and again forgive for the wrong interpretations as I really do not know this area well, but she has been able to clarify a great deal of the cards related to other surrounding cards. So the Justice card has come up a few times and YIKES! She was so right each time, she was able to define exactly what was coming and how I would handle them. Such as my divorce, civil suits I was to contemplate and my recently trying to sue my previous employer.. How do I perceive Justice? I perceive it as, and pardon if I am understanding it wrongly, Libra who is exactly who I am always looking for balance. I have no idea why I am to be tested each during each phase in my life with Justice as somehow it does not favor me in any way. No matter how righteous I have lived my life. So I suppose I find it on a personal scale, although I am always trying to seek the larger picture, it seems to come down on me personally.

I think you've made an astute observation about Libra and you're right it is about balance. It is about tempering severity with compassion. Namaste-Anora
