Do you agree that Filipino dishes are delicious, but not healthy? We went to visit a balikbayan friend, their son about 9 years who was born in the states said that Filipino dishes are not healthy because it's mostly oily and salty.
I guess that poses a challenge to us on how we can make our dishes delicious and at the same time healthy. One example is Adobo, well it's really fatty, but there other variations we can adopt to lessen the fat. I heard one of my friend they cook dried adobo, no soy sauce just vinegar. Another way is to put it in the refrigerator after cooking to harden the oil then remove the fat and reheat.
What other ways do you think we can cook Filipino food the healthy way.

hello,
Not only Filipino cuisines are unhealthy.
To have a healthy food eat raw veggies, fruits and less meat.
when i cook dishes,i don't put too much salt or soy sauce,so for the dish to become salty that depends on how it is cooked.
Do that kid think that American foods are healthy?
Why not check who's got more health issues, never let the kid think negative about our food,he still a Filipino anyway.

Well I guess there is some truth to it but I do not think that is entirely true since if you eat small portions of it then you can really stay healthy. I think the problem with us is we love to eat and overeat everything we see on the table.
If we look at our lifestyle before and today there is a stark difference where the people of the past work really hard and burns a lot of calories that with us today. That is why eating the food was just to compensate with lost calories burned. But we are not like it was before that were primarily manual work and labor was really hard.
Our lifestyle today is far more convenient, where we just stay at office and work with our minds and not with our physical self anymore. So the foods we are eating now is too much already.

Yeah it's true that most Filipino dishes are unhealthy 'coz they are so oily , salty & high in cholesterol. Examples are lechon (roasted pig), binagoongang baboy( pork with salted shrimp paste), lechon kawali, sinigang na baboy & so much more. Filipino dishes are all yummy & mostly delicious foods are not healthy. But there are other means of cooking that would somehow lessen the risk of us getting hypertensive, diabetic & be a candidate for heart attack.Like instead of pork one can use meat substitutes like the ones used in a certain restaurant we usually find in food courts here. These meat substitutes are I think taken from veggies or soy products so they are really healthy & nutritious as well. In cooking sinigang na baboy, my hubby which is a a very health-conscious person, boils pork first & throws the water on first boil thus minimizing the fat content of pork. When frying almost anything always drain on paper towels so that the oil will be absorbed by the paper. When cooking adobo or any recipe that requires veggies, always add extra veggies so that meat consumption will be minimized like in adobo, afritada, caldereta you can add lots of potato & other veggies.
