disaster in Rio

Brazil

We are in the early summer and it is a rainy season in Brazil. Every year there are floods and authorities do nothing to prevent. This year besides the usual floods, the mountainous region of the State of Rio de Janeiro( same name as the city of Rio) was devastated by floods, landslides and more than 300 death. I still do not know how many died because there are many missing. Hills collapsed burying many houses and even mansions of 3 floors. It is known that the rains are getting stronger due to global warming but this is allied to the illegal occupation of that area should be protected. To build houses, people devastated the forest and the hill land turned fragile. Until when will this happen???

I was worried about a brasilian friend who lives in Camboriu last year. I could see big buildings falling as the hills where they were built crumbled down with the rain. WE have been lucky with some luxurious apartments built near the ocean front in a country that has the worst earthquakes in the planet (Chile). Authorities are near sighted and only want the money thewy will get when they give the permits.

Camboriu Beach is beautiful..landslides occur in the hills but even those who live by the mountain can be affected.

I think the only thing we can do is pray really really hard the the God Almighty since Mother nature is really starting to show her anger towards us human beings. Also even on our own little way we should try to be environmentally friendly like recycling, use eco-friendly products, and try to clean our surroundings since etc...^_^

Nice to know that you're from Brazil. I had many friends from Brazil in Orkut. I am totally astonished to know that the city is flooded every single year. The authorities should really do something about it. If the city is so much prone to landslides then the place could be evacuated. This is not an isolated incident. Disasters are happening all over the world quite frequently. This is probably due to global warming. There is a sudden change in climate. It's rather too harsh. The temperature rises to an extremely high level in the summer. This winter has seen the lowest temperature of the year. The climate used to be far more moderate a few years ago. Forests and other resources have succumbed to human greed. It's actually us who are killing ourselves, slowly but steadily.

Let's all pray and asked God for his guidance. Just trust and believe Him and nothing will go wrong. Everything happens for a reason.
