One way to look at it is that our parents love us. They punish us for our own good. Actually they punish us because they love us. If a parent doesn't "correct" us then they really do not love us.

I agree. Like parents, God want's us to be better persons. Experience is the best teacher. That is why we need to experience what happens when we do something wrong so that we'll avoid it

thanks for the replies I really agree with that actually this question was from my friend. God wants us to learn from our mistakes. He doesn't want His children to go astray. Just like our parents they teach us on how to do good things to others and if we made a mistake they punish us. Not to hurt us but to make us a better person.

Greetings! For me, the reason why God punishes us is because He wants us to learn from a mistake. Every wrong act has a corresponding punishment. He just wants us to be a better person. :)

Is it punishment, or simply the consequences of being? I think we act like spoiled brats when we think God should force a "good" life on us all. What would be the point of living if there was no opposition? There could be no "balance" if only one side of the spectrum could exist.

Because Love doesn't mean getting hurt. Actually, love is a little synonymous to getting hurt. God is love because God loves us, unconditionally. He punishes us so that we, and the people around us will be able to learn. Punishment, or getting hurt is how we learn. Remember when you were still a kid,and you parents told you not to run up or down the stairs, but you just wouldn't listen, then one day, you were running up/down the stairs and missed a step? It hurt like hell. You probably got a sprain, a bump or a fracture. You learned not to run on the stairs (unless it's really really important that you're willing to risk a sprained ankle for it) because it hurts. God is like that. He has rules, commandments that we should follow. Morality to consider. We can disobey these, but eventually, God will punish us for the wrong we've done, so that we will learn from it, or people around us or after us (like stories in the bible where we learned loads about being good) will learn

God is love, God is judge, God is everything. The way father or mother although love their children can not get them scott free when they mistake for their own good the same way God has to punish somebody for their mistakes. You may think I am a good man and I have not done anything to deserve such punishment, you have to think life not as the present one only but other number of lives before this and what you suffer or enjoy is the sum total of balance of good or bad you have brought along with you in this life. This is what we Indians believe.

God doesn't punished a person. He loves us that's why he gave himself to us for our salvation. Salvation from the sins that our ancestors had done. If you're talking about punishing when it comes to problems that is very difficult to handle. That's not a punish. It's the only way to make us worthy to him. We got problems all because he wants us to be strong, not to be weak. He wants us to do better in life and to strive for our own self or to other people as well. God loves us very much.

In addition, God wants us to be responsible and to learn from our mistakes;thus, we will be a good follower of God.
