I've been thinking about this a lot and got quite mixed reviews on both operating systems. Many say that XP is still the best and 7 is unstable. But I also read many reason and good features of Windows 7. Now I am undecided...What Os are you using and which do you think is better? Xp or 7??

I'm not sure about 7 being unstable, but it does eat up a lot of memory. I prefer XP for its simplicity and the less memory taken up, especially since some of my programs here, like Photoshop and my video-editing software, really take up a lot of memory. It depends on what you use your PC for, in my opinion.

You mean windows 7 eats up a lot of memory, I don't know that, my daughter told me if for games XP is more advisable.I'm not savvy about computer so I guess I'll weight things out from mylot member comments and decide what to do next. Thanks lazette

yes, they say its fast and user friendly as xp.The features are fantastic as others may say.Newer technology is really fast now these days. You have a new version now then the next day, month or year they will introduce another so sometimes users get confused when to buy , now or later.thanks for your time

I feel win7 is much better than winxp.
From the day I switched to win7 I knew I can throw the xp disc away.
The new win7 feather that attract me most is the SEARCH function. while searching the whole disk, winxp will cost a long long long time. win7 complete the whole disk searching in a blink of eye.
There are still many other convenient feathers that winxp doesn't have.

So, its really advisable to switch to windows 7 with its superb functionality.More faster searching, automatic updates and less problems I guess. But maybe I'll save the XP disc in case i encounter problem with 7. I have just upgraded my computer that is why I want some opinions from you guys. Thanks for your time zausiu

Good day christiana,
So in your experience windows 7 is better than your previous XP Os.I have also search for some positive feedbacks on both Os, so maybe I'll just see which will get favorable comments from mylot members than I'll decide which is which (mylot members are more reliable with regards to polls)Thanks

I'm still confused but I guess windows 7 is more advisable because some says lesser problems, quicker search and updates.
Dual booting as you have said in case I'm not satisfied with windows 7, I don't know maybe I give that a thought.thanks

Wimdows XP is good, but Windows 7 is better. I have been using W7 for about a year now with absolutely no problems and I have had no trouble with it's stability whatsoever so I'd say go ahead, upgrade!

Yes, they are both good but of course the newer Windows 7 had an edge over XP.Almost all who responded on this topic says Windows 7.At the moment I'm satisfied with my xp so I'll save for Win7

Good day stanley777,
Now that a year has passed what did you do? Did you upgrade or not? I am still using XP as that is the program that came with my computer and I just haven't bothered to change it. I also don't know what my memory on my computer is so that could be a problem according to some of your other responses I read.
I don't think it matters in my case, what window I use as I don't use my computer all that much. I figure why fix what isn't broken so I just leave it. Besides I heard a few bad things about windows 7 but now a year later I think those problems have been fixed.
Good day chaitra001,
I also like mylot for curing my loneliness. I left my husband 2 1/2 years ago and I moved to another city and the only person I really know here is my 28 year old daughter. I am self employed and don't really get to meet anyone except my clients and I can't mix work with pleasure so I get lonely a lot.
I use mylot also when I get lonely. I feel like I have people to talk to. But only when people comment back to my replies. I was on mylot last night for about 3 hours and I posted about 25 responses and I have yet to recieve a single comment so I felt like I was alone anyways as no one was talking to me. I still feel that way today because when I opened my email box I still didn't see a single comment to any of my responses.
Today I have been here for about an hour now and have responded to about 7 discussions and I still haven't heard from anyone so it is a little lonely today again.
Cheers and happy mylotting my friend ,
chris

I don't seem to be getting very many comments lately anymore, not like I used to in the past. Maybe I am responding to discussions that a lot of the people aren't active anymore since they are older discussions.
I had one person give me aggravation because I responded to an old discussion of theirs and I bothered her by doing that. She said the discussion is finished and I shouldn't have opened it again by responding to it. All I said to her was that no discussion in mylot is finished.

Good day chrislotz,
Hello, I just hope today many have responded to your comments. Sorry about the delay, I have been off line for almost two weeks. I have just came back yesterday and just log in today on mylot.
As for your query about what windows I used, I'm still using XP and I'm really satisfied with it.Maybe I could try windows 7 if my computer gives me problem.
I also admired your principles in life about getting self employed and enjoyed talking/exchanging ideas on mylot.Yes, it do helps especially when you have no one to talk too most of the time. Thanks for your time my friend.

Most of the time when a new version of windows comes out I will wait a good while before upgrading but the new windows 7 version seems to be pretty stable. I myself haven't upgraded to it yet but I plan on putting together a new computer in the next month of two and I plan on installing windows 7 on it.
I haven't used windows 7 very much but what I have seen is all good. Windows 7 is suppose to be really media ready for you entertainment needs and I do watch a lot of movies and streaming videos.
In my opinion windows 7 is ok to install now.

Good day cableman67,
Yeah, we can not say when if ever newer version and technology will be introduced, but lately some companies did it yearly giving some users second thoughts, if they would like to have the present or wait for the latest version. So for me I'll stick to XP for the time being until I have save for Win7, anyway xp don't give me problems yet.thanks for your time LOL...

Now your question depends on how do you use your computer. If you have some software that might not work with windows 7 and you need them, then use XP. But if you can also upgrade some of these software, then you go ahead and upgrade to windows 7. It's a use-friendly type of OS unlike the windows Vista with all its bugs and other complicated stuff. So far, Windows 7 is cool. I am using windows 7 for personal use, but for my job, we still use Windows XP because of too many programs installed in my computer.

So its more advisable to use the Windows XP because it has proven its worthiness for years.I have'nt encounter any problem with XP so I guess I'll stick to it for the meantime though. And since I'm not using it for a more complicated stuffs so no need for the advance features that Windows 7 have.thanks for the lines, LOL

yeah, your right we must adapt ourselves to newer technologies so that we would not be left behind.Anyway at present I'm satisfied with my windows xp, and I'm not in a hurry Windows 7 can wait.If i have the money I could might as well buy a new computer with Windows 7.Thanks again for your time, bro

But sooner or later, you would have to upgrade to Windows 7. They do have new features that are also cool to have. But the decision is still up to you. Hope you have a great time.

from my experience you better stay with XP unless you have some special requirements. Otherwise go for Windows 7 only if you have a fast machine of around 4GB or more RAM. i5 or i7 processor.
If you have planned to upgrade to Win 7 with your old system, then please leave that idea. Even a 4GB RAM and Dual Core Processor cannot render Windows 7 log on page quickly. Think and decide.

XP is by far better than 7. Compared, XP is much faster and stable, and much easier to use. Lastly, it's compatible with almost everything, while 7 has some know compatibility problems. You may consider Win7 for a new system when chosing your first OS, but changing it without a strong reason is stupid for me. Also, you need a faster machine if it's not already very fast.

In my opinion, if I had windows xp then i wouldn't change it to 7 because one of my friend did the same thing and he's facing alot of problems. His computer keeps getting viruses and its always slow as hell. The other reason i wouldnt pick windows 7 on xp is because some of the softwares on online are not upgraded with 7 yet. so it would be a major drawback for windows 7.

I work with Windows 7 and I find it very stable an reliable. However, I did not install it on to a computer that was running a different, earlier operating system. My last computer ran Vista and I stayed with Vista until I got this new computer. I didn't like Vista too much though because it was unstable. I did use to use XP and thought that was a great operating system, that gave me no problems, therefore I saw no point in upgrading for the sake of it.
Windows 7 needs a better processor and lots of memory, but personally, I stick with the system that came with the computer and would not change if a new operating system were released. If it aint broke, I don't fix it. _Derek

Hi stanley: I am using windows 7 right now. When I first make this change I really miss the old windows xp but I think that we should adapt ourselves to new tecnologies in order to be updated to them. I think windows 7 is doing well and I like their images and how it looks.

I still use Windows XP because of its established track record. You have maybe heard of organizations whose policy is to not accept any new software products until the first service pack is released. Their analysis is that by the time the first service pack is released, most of the bugs should have been fixed and the software will be constant and dependable. This similar viewpoint is part of what allows Windows XP to be a dominant operating system. It has been on the market for roughly seven years. In that time, it has received innumerable patches and updates, and the Windows XP has confirmed itself to be secure and dependable.

It depends on some factors dude. You should tell first what your computer specs are. Because if you computer is old then you should keep with your windows xp but if its a recent model then you should put windows 7 its sometimes unstabble yes but im pretty sure it will become better than xp with the updates and because the new games will only be playable on windows 7 not xp.
Thanks for reading, commenting and rating :)
