My hubby and I are planning a cruise to Alaska next year. I have been anxiously wanting to go on this particular trip, they say Alaska is beautiful and a worth wild trip. So I am really looking forward to it. I have been told that the best of the year, in which it isn't as cold is during the months of July and beginning of August.
What do you think? Have you ever been to Alaska? And what is your advice, I have to small children and I don't want them to freeze either?
Looking forward to hearing from all of you!!!

My mother and sister went to Alaska and loved it. They went in that time frame, and said it was wonderful weather, AND the perfect time to be away from TEXAS!
Unless the weather is really strange, like we have a gigantic volcano erupt, I think your small children will be just fine!

That's the same thing I heard, that the weather is the best between that time frame. I don't want to take a cruise and have it be so cold that you can't be outside, I want the temperature just right and comfortable.
I am glad to hear that they both enjoyed their trip and that they took it at the perfect time and avoided that disaster in Texas, but I am sorry to hear that you were still there to experience though.

I went to Juneau and Sitka in the first week of June several years ago. The higher elevations still had snow on it, but the lower elevations were highs of the low 60's. It was great. The areas get a lot of mist during the summer, but there was never a heavy rain while I was there. No matter when you go, make sure to have rain gear with.

Thank you for the advice I will definitely make sure to carry my rain gear with us. I don't know which part of Alaska I will be visiting yet, but I definitely can't wait. I can't wait to see the mountains, they say the view is to die for.

They will love it. Unless you pay extra, you can stay near the coast. It is just a little cooler then Vancouver, B.C. My husband and I went on the Holland America line. Those ships are not as big as the other ships and the service is wonderful. Don't forget to take the narrow railway train ride. You will see where they had the gold rush. The cities are not that large, and you have to be careful of the tourist traps. But it is one place you do not want to miss. Enjoy yourself and have fun!

We are planning on going through Carnival since we already have credit with them from our previous cruise, but I have heard that Holland America is great hopefully I will be aboard their ship on a different occassion. I heard that the cities are pretty small, but the view is amazing.
The Narrow railway train ride is that an excursion that you take through the cruise line? That would actually be interesting to see. Let me know.
Thanks!!!

I sadly have not been to Alaska, but I was almost born there. My parents and my grandparents used to live up there before I was born. My Parents moved because my mom don't like the cold so they moved to California. And then my parents and grandparents all moved to Oregon eventually. But they all agree Alaska is a wonderful place and is very beautiful. My grandpa goes there to visit family now and again and he brings back really cool gifts from there. I hope you have lots of fun on your trip and I bet you will get lots of good pictures to show for it.

Thank you, I have also heard beautiful things about Alaska and I am so looking forward to experiencing it. I don't like the cold weather either, so I don't think I could live there, that is why I am hoping to go between the months of July or beginning of August, they say it's the warmest time up there.

I spent most of my growing up years in Alaska. it was one of the best experiences of my life. It was a great place to visit and to live. every day could be an adventure. there was ice and cold and snow but you can get that in a lot of places. Alaska's beauty isn't something that can be duplicated. i do miss it sometimes.

I have been there once, but I was 13 or 14 years old so I dont remember much, but I sure do remember that it has plenty of amazing forest mixed with mountains and water, it really is worth the trip if you enjoy nature at its best. And the summers arent that cold over there, I remember there was some snow in some parts of the mountains where its shadow all day long but other than that, the weather is allright. Hope that helps.

Wow it sounds like an amazing place and an experience I am really looking forward to, I have taken cruises in the past, but this one will be an experience all by itself. It's definitely going to be a bit expensive compared to my other trips, but for what I hear it is all worth it.
I also hear the view and the mountains are a site all by themselves, and also to make sure I get a balcony for this particular cruise. I can't wait...

No I have never been there, but I would like to one day. It is supposed to be pretty nice during the summer months and it is supposed to be incredibly beautiful there. Some of friends and I were talking about Alaska the other day. We were all saying how we would like to go there and see it, but none of us actually wanted to live there. I am not a big fan of cold, but I would love to see all the natural beauty.

Everyone has told me the same exact thing, that is an experience that is worth wild and all worth the money. I was also told that I had to make sure that I get a cabin with a balcony, because they say the view is beautiful and worth the money, so I am hoping that next year, I can take my trip.
I hope you can experience it was well.
