Can a life long vegan/vegetarian survive if they had to eat processed foods?

Would a vegan or vegetarian be able to survive if they no longer had access to natural/organic foods? Say a natural disaster occured and the only food available for months was processed foods like in the movie "I Am Legend". I think a vegan/vegetarian would probably have a hard time keeping a can of Chef Boy Ardee down without getting sick. Imagine the day after the disaster the only source of food you see accessible is McDonald's food that's been left out for an entire day. Even non vegans would have a hard time with that one, perhaps getting an upset stomach or heartburn, whereas a vegan would probably come down with a bad case of the runs. What do you think?

I think that it would be tough for someone that eats mostly organic fresh foods to suddenly start eating processed chemical laden foods. Personally I know that whenever I eat something with dairy in it, I start to feel a bit sick. Not overly ill, but I can certainly notice the difference. If I ate some red meat for example, it would not sit well with me at all. My digestive system would not be happy.
I have been eating a very high fresh organic vegan diet for a few years now and I know that there is a huge difference between fresh foods and processed foods. I think that would be a bigger difference than a vegan adding some dairy for example if they were what I call a junk food vegan who lives on lots of processed vegan foods with a high amount of grains.

You see I'm all for the organic foods and all but it's really difficult for me to make a complete switch to it, cause my kids are already picky eaters. When I was trying to make the switch I saw the news about hurricane Katrina and what those people had to go through.
Since I live in hurricane/tornado country (Fl) myself I figured maybe I should always have my stomach prepared because the last thing I want during any type of disaster is a bad stomach. I have kids so I need to be ready to go. So I figured I should always eat some processed foods just so that my stomach would be used to it. Or maybe I've watched too many zombie movies lol. Is that just a crazy notion?

Thanks for the BR. It is a shame that you did not get any other responses yet as this is a good topic.
I think that way of thinking is a bit weird. It is almost like you are willing a disaster to come. I know what you mean though. It is better to be prepared for disasters, but I think preparing ourselves for the whole of our lives by eating as best we can is a better option. If a disaster comes, then we just have to deal with it as best be can.
There has been a lot of flooding here in Australia in recent times and fresh produce has been hard to come by at times. Even frozen vegetables have been selling out in stores as there were no fresh options. While I was away on vacation this happened, but we were able to compromise and we ate the best we could, which was still reasonably healthy. Back at home, the stores were only empty for a few days so it was no big deal as we had plenty of food to get us through. We mainly shop from the local organic farmers market on a Sunday, but lately there has been limited stock as some of the farmers were completely wiped out. But other produce came in from elsewhere to take it's place, so we are still getting good food.

No,no thank you for the responses, I think maybe I just over analyze things a bit too much. I always think of the things noone else does, feeling that I'm going to be prepared for anything and everything. But I agree with you, I should prepare for my entire life rather than just for a disaster, that is weird! I think a really healthy person would have better chances of survival vs one who isn't so healthy. Thanx again for clearing that up for me.
I really appreciate the straight forward response, I think I just realized that I've been thinking that way since 9/11 I was living in NY unfortunately at the time. You know what's really sad you speak to people around you and noone gets it, maybe lack of attention, and here a perfect stranger helps me to put it into perspective. I'd give you a BR again if I could, thanx again for your very insightful response much appreciated.

Sorry to get here so late (running four weeks too late: puff, puff!).
I've probably seen that movie, but don't remember it now. I wonder why McDonald's would be spared while everything else gets flattened? From what I've seen in the news, houses & businesses of those who live their lives the correct, noble & humble way get spared from natural disasters when everything else around them is flattened. I don't think all natural disasters are as random as we're made to believe. If there was a natural disaster here, I'd head straight to the nearest vegan organic eatery! If I couldn't get hold of good food, I'd eat nothing. I'd rather go hungry than fill my body with filth. I know I'd survive longer like this than most "normal" people. You might think this is a bit extreme, but I believe the universe or God or whatever you wish to call the higher power, will provide for us when we are in need. So bring it on, I could do with a good fasting!
