Hi suguwillu,
yes, i am a tamilian too! I love the language a lot. I'm not so well versed with tamil as i also live in bangalore and as you know, so many languages and we can't just get stuck into one particular language. But, I'm far better than others I must say!
Well, the best thing about Tamil is that, the language has a lot of respect in it when we speak to others. There are different words to describe different feelings to different people. Just a small example of that is, In english, we have a single word love, love is the same for parents, daughter, son, uncle, aunt, friends. But, in Tamil, its not that way. For the love in the family and others it is paasam, for your girlfriend/boyfriend it is, kaadhal, for your friend it is Natpu and things like this are specific in the dictionary of tamil. The literature of tamil also has a great history for itself.
Tamil claims to have the longest history in the literature. There's a saying that, even before others learned about the scriptures, tamilians had the Thirukural written and the history of thirukural goes back 2000 yrs ago.
Well, thirukural is the famous book written by thiruvalluvar, which has all the things you need to know about life and how to live it. Its just small poems kind of a thing in 2 lines each poem!
I hope i've given you enough information. But i think its very less when it comes to Tamil because the language has endless things to it and a hell lot of dimensions and slangs to it which of all has its own beauty. The culture of Tamilians is depicted in the language!
Happy Mylotting!
Cheers!

Hi
I think Tamil Is a good language to learn even though you can not learn easily one can try to learn this language. If you know knnada then it will be more easy to understand and learn.
I can speak little But I understand Tamil properly.
If you go chennai you like it or not you have to learn Tamil becouse most of the people dont know english or Hindi there. If you dont learn you cant survive there.
Its my personal experience.
Good luck

Tamil is one of the ancient languages of the Dravidian inheritance. It is a beautiful language but its grammar is a bit difficult. Just speaking and reading is pretty easy but writing and learning it in detail is hard. I was born and brought up in Kolkata but made it a point to learn Tamil as it is my mother tongue. I feel very bad when people do not know even to speak their own mother tongue and it is the fashion of the day. Tamil is a rich language but spoken in different dialects in different parts of Tamilnadu. Tamil has a rich literature and beautiful poems and one should learn the language to enjoy them.
Welcome to mylot and happy mylotting.
