Well the American TV gods are doing it again. They are taking a successful English TV show and making an American version, instead of what the should have done which is buy the rights to show the Enlish version. Being Human which ran on BBC America was a great show. The actors and the character development were both great. Now SyFy is going to show their own version. So far, from the little snippets of dialog shown in the commercials, I dread the new show. Instead of getting me excited, the commercials make me dread the show. The actors are unappealing and the little bit of dialog seems trivial. Will you watch this show and if you do please post your opinion.

My wife and I and one of our kids watched this show last night. I like things about Vampires and Warewolves so it is the kind of show I like. I thought it was pretty good, maybe a tad bit cliche but so are vampires and warewolves.. The acting was decent, I believed their strife. The story line is OK, but over all I liked the show and then ended the first show with a big cliff hanger so that was wise on their part I think. I will watch it again.

So far the basic story line is following the English version except that the ending was a new twist fromwhat I remember.

Since I love Supernatural I decided to give it a change because of Jeremy Carver and I did like it. Sure I was shallowly disappointed by the casting of Sam and Mark as vampires since I would have at least liked one of them to be hot. There are some changes and I'm hoping that they continue to change because that will make it easier to just watch the two and enjoy them both as separate shows.

Whoops I meant chance. I seem to be an oddball that will give a show a chance before passing judgement on it. I watch first before because just reading about a show isn't going to give you an idea of how it will be. If I decided to not watch The Vampire Diaries I would have missed out on an awesome show.
I don't see any reason why BBCAmerica wouldn't show it although lately I notice they've been cheating by airing American shows on there like Star Trek and X-Files. Since the third season is just starting up in England I would imagine that it won't be on over here for a while since there tends to be a delay. In the meantime I'd have to catch up and I'l continue watching the American one.

I hope BBC America continues showing new shows of the original. It would be a shame to stop running them because of the SyFy version.

it does seem a bit pointless to remake it.
I'm really looking forward to the new season about to start, as a lot of things that happened are unresolved, particularly the issue with the door.
I've watched it since the pilot, which ran as a series of pilot programmes and I contacted BBC3 as part of the campaign to have this one made.
it's just a really great setup.
I quite agree, why don't they just show the original?
I think it's quite patronising that when a channel likes a UK series, they seem to think that an American audience won't "get" it if it's English. which as I said, is patronising. it seems that if they think it's easier to remake something for America that to show a UK programme, then they have a low opinion of their audiences.

I think there's a lack of creativity or originality in Hollywood that's been evident for some time. Why else do they take old TV shows and make them into movies or take movies and make them into TV shows. Sometimes it works, as in the TV version of MASH; however, that only became successful when they realized they could duplicate the movie's graphicness (is that a word) in a more censored TV genre. Often though, the newer versions can be failures. I tend to like many of the BBC America dramas or situation comedies. I just wish they would show more of those and fewer of the self-help type shows.

lt least they changed the name of the characters. Mitchell, Annie, and George are now Aidan, Sally, and Josh. (Herrick is now Bishop.) I do wonder if Aidan got his name from Aidan Turner who plays Mitchell. Also I may have missed the first UK episode but I don't remember George being confronted by his sister.

My husband and I are really enjoying the show. I didn't know there was a BBC version so I cannot comment on the original, but so far I've enjoyed it. The character development is complex and intense. I am interested to see just where these three main characters go in their life, how they develop, and how they come to terms with their current situations.
It is by far one of the best new series I've seen this year/last year in terms of vampires and werewolves, ghosts. I'm not at all impressed with the other two popular vampire series that I wasn't sure if I would want to even see this series, but once I saw the first episode I was hooked. It just goes so far beyond the typical plots of other series. It actually deals with their psyche and I think this important. They remember what it was like to be "human" and now they are forced to deal with another way of life, a way of thinking, and even being. The title itself brings so much to the surface as we're forced each week to reflect upon our own life of "being human".

I'm excited by the show. but then again I'm american. I watched the show when it premiered last night. I love syfy shows. what intrigues me even more is that it's a copy cat show from what you say, so now I want to watch the original to make comparisons. I love it, it's like reading a book and then watching the movie version of it. It's always different.don't be so upset watch it and make comparisons it's fun and it gives you a different perspective. Take care.

I like it because there are so many subplots going on at the same time. I think the vampire scenes are too graphic for kids though.

The shows are basically re-writes of the British shows where I still think the British actors are better.

I don't think SyFy could have gotten the rights to the original show, BBC America gets pretty good ratings off of that along with Doctor Who (also formerly on SciFI), Torchwood, and Primeval. The BBC America has gotten a nice little niche of genre programming really. So of course SyFy did the next best thing, just remade it. I have no interest in the remake in the slightest, and just wish SyFy would create a new original show already, but hey they still have Eureka. We really can't complain too much about SyFy remaking a BBC show, as Skins, Shameless, and Top Gear just got American versions as well in the last little bit. You know us Americans, we can't watch anything from other countries! *rolls eyes*
