what dishes to prepare on a birthday?

2 1/2 months from now I'm going home for my birthday.Planning for a really small get-together for my friends that will be coming over from my place.i wanted it to be so simple but then i can't think of what snacks or dishes to prepare.i want something new,not like the common "spaghetti & chicken" style.
any suggestion for snacks and drinks?
