What is wrong with Internet Explorer? Every time I download Internet Explorer 8 and make Google Chrome my default browser, Internet Explorer 8 just totally disappears from my computer. It seems, as if Internet Explorer 8 is jealous of Google Chrome being the default browser this has happen several times. Internet Explorer 8 is a crappy browser but sometimes I have to download software or get updates from Microsoft and they do not recognize any other browser except Firefox and of course theirs, Internet Explorer.

Both are very bad browsers, specially IE, but there is no war (or better said, conflic) between them, appart from the commertial dispute between the companies.
When you make Chrome your default browser, the logical consequences is that all pages you try to view with any program will auto open with it, regardless other browsers you may have. IE or any other for the matter, will never auto appear again unless you change your default browser.
But that doesn't means that they're not there. You can open any other you have, and use them normally as you always did, and they will work as always.

No way, it's for sure in the same place as always (program files = internet explorer). The instalation of a new default browser may seem to make it hidden, but any shortcuts to it will work, and you can still use them. Browsers don't kill each other, no program touch other programs folders (OK viruses do).
One more thing, particular to IE. It's part of the core of Windows. You can't remove IE, even if you want, as it's embed with Windows, they are the same and are always together. At least you can remove its updates and stay with the former version of IE6, but it's always there.
I don't understand one thing only. IE is the worst browser in the world, why you would want to keep it?

Doesn't make much sense. This is the first I have heard of IE falling into a cyber black hole. It never wants to go away. I think Windows makes it an integral part of their system. Hence the Microsoft updates through IE.
Opera is my default browser, but IE is still there...lurking...waiting for a chance to rear its ugly head.
You haven't mentioned what platform you use, but go to Start My Computer C: Program Files and see if there is a folder for Internet Explorer.

Try this sirnose. Go to Control Panel Add or Remove Programs Add/Remove Windows Components. The box for Internet Explorer should be checked, if not, check it and re-install it.
It does sound like making Chrome your default browser may be screwing with some registry keys.

I thought they were killing each other. You can expect this to happen between these two competing companies, since it's what gives them profit. It also happen to smart phones. If the phone has a Microsoft OS then Chrome won't work in there and vice versa. That's why I prefer using one browse to avoid this conflict. Choose your side my friend!

mark, you say you have no problems using both, but which browser is your default? For some reason, I keep thinking setting Chrome as the default is connected with sirnose's AWOL IE8. (I'm fishing here.)
