What is the pet you have always wanted? Or, if you already have it, what is it? I love hearing about exotic pets, so if you have one or want one, tell me about them!

for real life day to day pets, dogs and rats are my favourites. over the years we've had pets from fish to horses, to a tarantula, birds to stick insects, to rabbits and guinea pigs, both of which we bred, dogs, ferrets (fantastic and fun pets) hamsters, rats, cats. all sorts. but dogs and rats are the most rewarding. if they weren't a protected species, and you could have them as pets, ever since I was a child I'd have LOVED to have a pet bat. either a fruit bat or a Pipistrelle, most likely. with fruit bats being large and lovely, and Pipistrelles being the most common UK species, and tiny and adorable. a while back we rescued a grounded Pipistrelle and cared for him briefly, trying to release him that night. after the release failed (he would crawl to the edge of my hand, hang, flap his little wings as hard as he could, and fall to the ground) so we kept him overnight and then took him to a local bat rehabilitation expert. and when he was well enough (he hadn't flown as he was severely underweight) he came back to us for release in his own territory. it was wonderful to see him fly free. he was utterly gorgeous, and I'm so happy to have had that time with him. I'm now a trainee bat warden, and I hope in the future to train in bat captive care and rehabilitation. so while not strictly a pet, I may in the future have bats in my care.

You would love my story then. When my sisters and I were young (around 10 years old) we noticed there were sleeping bats hanging underneath the siding of the old age home we lived next to. Well, we decided we were going to collect these bats. We got out our little "critter catchers" plastic aquarium type containers, and proceeded to try to catch the bats. The first one woke up and flew away. The second one was caught. As we were looking for more, and elderly lady that lived at the old age home came out with a broom screaming "Leave them bats alone!" We left. We had that bat for one night, and after the sonar sound it made all night, and no sleep, we let it go the next evening. We were quite the kids. We once caught a baby duck, but only for about three minutes, and then let it go as well. Looking back on the things we did as kids, I would have changed a lot realizing now how bad it was for the animals.

really! when i was young you know my cousin catches a mother bat with a baby in her pouch,as i remember they put the young ones into the cage and they kill the mother for food, and to my surprised they keep skinning and removing the intestines but it still moving they grilled the beheaded body but still its hear is moving. sorry to tell you about this but what im just wanted to say is those bats are also amazing and needed to be free and they always striving to live.

I agree. Some pets are nice to dream about, but not something you would necessarily get. Dogs are always the easier option!

I really wish I could make a polar bear cub or a white tiger cub a pet. Hehe! My favorite pet so far are turtles. I had rabbits and fish, still have a cat and my turtle is missing somewhere in our backyard, I hope. If dragons exists, I'd want that one, too!

Exotic pets are very hard to find. But I was inspired by this particular political figure in our country who is also well known for having tigers as his pets. I think though that you have to have a really huge space for the tiger. I would want to have one someday. But if not, I would like to settle for having an aquarium of fishes with really beautiful colors. I'm not familiar with fish names but hope to have a variety of fishes in my aquarium
